Hi guys.

I seem to have lost my Microvtec utility disk, I am after the DBLPal No Flicker / Multiscan no flicker Monitor drivers for Workbench 3.1

Does anyone know where I can source these? I have checked Aminet but cannot seem to find them, seem to be Cybervision DBLPal, a review of the monitor and all sort of other things I do not need..

Thanks in advance!

Spud

@spudmiga

Aren't they on the OS 3.x installation disks? The Storage disk IIRC?

@spudmiga

I got the impresson a driver disk existed and would have helped set it up. As this reminds me of an M1438 story. I don't believe I've told you this story so I'll recount it now.

I had the chance to buy an M1438 at an Amiga meeting over 20 years ago and regret not buying it. I really should have. One was up for sale for AU$200. I was still using a TV so really should have bought it!

The problem was I wanted to use it with my A1200 for the DblPAL modes. But the guy selling it didn't know how to set it up. I don't know his history but it seemed to me he may have only used it for A500 gaming or Hi res Workbenching and not for it's full use. I played around with the knobs but I could just not get a full screen. The double scanned modes would only show around half width. They wouldn't go full wide. To me this just wasn't good enough. So I left it.

Regardless, I really should have bought it. I really needed a proper monitor to save my eyes. I was Amiga smart. So I would have worked it out at home eventually. But it's one of those things. I could just not get it to work and no one else knew how to get it working either. So I just gave up. Sad to say, but sometimes that's the way it is.

Interesting story. I remember the days before LCD's came out, and the 1438 was THE monitor everyone wanted for their Amigas...
I must admit I was disappointed when I first got mine to find the black bars either side on the flicker-free modes. Just a simple switch called H SIZE on the monitor would have sorted it... typical cost cutting!

You can of course get a full picture in one of the ugly modes or you can find/pay extra for a flicker fixer..

PS.. worthy of note that AmigaOS 3.1.4 BestWB comes with a stack of monitor drivers including DBLPal, DBLNTSC, HD720 and a load of others...

@spudmiga

I still run three Microvitec 1438s here and have the disk. I actually also have a couple more MicroVitecs including a 17" and a much older one. In 1993 I placed a deposit down for a 1942 and then Commodore went bust the next year and the Microvitec was the monitor they suggested. Still works.

I can put the disk on the site if you need and I can post you a link. By the way the disk I have is for the 1438 in 1994 and there was no 3.1. I assume it still has what you need on it.

That would be perfect if you could.

Many thanks

Like I'm going to care. When someone finally comes to scrape me off the mattress I guess they will get the skips in and it will all go down the tip. Its not like I'm leaving it to anyone. I wouldn't worry anyway, as my boss reminded me once... 'It's all junk anyway'. Probably right.

Anyhooo.... I updated the blog to include that disk for anyone wanting a copy. You can also take a peek at some of my junk I have to struggle round very day. Seriously I must be mad.

You could leave it to me if you like - although not sure of your age/health you might be around a lot longer than me. :)
