Something new that we have been getting excited about for the last few months.

I don't think this has been done for the Amiga 1200 before?

It would appear that it allows you to write to the 4MB flash on AmigaKit's latest 8MB ram board.

@Rob

OK, so this is not programmable kickstart. That would interest me.

@utri007

The Flash ROM is 4MB so is fully configurable with different ROMs, Kickstart Modules and any software that the user wants to make resident. It can survive any powering down of the Amiga 1200 and be instantly available as soon as the computer is switched on. We are hoping it will be very useful for users.

The Flash Configurator tool lets you setup multiple configurations and there is an Early Boot Menu which lets you select the configuration you want to use.

With this product there is no need to use software such as BlizKick any longer or swap ROMs physically.

@amigakit

It is probably an obvious YES - but does this render the 512k+Extended 512k limitation irrelevant?

@Lou

The A1200 never had such a limitation. It comes with 2 megs of Chip RAM.

@Samurai_Crow

Perhaps I am confused what this product is...I thought it was a configurable KICKROM chip...

It comes with the 8 meg Fast RAM belly slot card and has 4 megs of flash. It is just unlocking a feature of an existing card.

@amigakit

The A1200 has always needed a CD32-like splash intro.

@amigakit

Do you have any plans to release more hardware with flash RAM onboard? There might be mechanical issue that prevent it but I think small card that fits between the A1200 motherboard an exististing accelerator card could be usfel in heavily expanded systems where it may be more beneficial to have extra module and drivers loaded before booting from mass storage.

@amigakit

OK so could I use this to switch between 3.10 and 3.1.4 without having to replace the ROMS on the board? And then have a custom splash screen as well?

@outlawal2

Yes that is technically possible with this hardware/software.

Yes, this was about 6 months of work and investment so we will be using it in future products.

@amigakit

I ordered one of these boards. It will be neat to see what can be done. And, as always, I do what I can to support Amiga Developers.

This whole thread is confusing - is this card for A1200® or for A1200™ - and where do one get those? I have lots of A1200s, but none of them with ™ behind.
