| Hi,
Since I got my X5000 out of storage somewhere in November or December 2020, I replaced the quite noisy fan with a more silent one. As the board is mounted in a Lian Li T60, noise can be quite distracting.
First I tried a NoiseBlocker BlackSilentPRO 60x60x25, but with very little success, as it only made a handfull of revolutions before halting completely. Its motor kept emitting a rumbling noise, but further failed to do its intended job. Mounting the fan was quite an undertaking.
My second, and current, choice was a Noctua NF60x25, which indeed is very, vey silent! Mounting was a relative breeze. Its only drawback is its occasional malfunctioning in mostly the startup phase. During that phase it sometimes comes to a complete halt thereby causing the processor to shut off due to overheating.
What fan have you applied and what are your experiences?

I use the ones that came with the board. Thats a Silent 6 by Gelid. https://gelidsolutions.com/thermal-solutions/case-fan-silent-6/
I bought two spare units just in case one might fail in the near future.

Very topical! My CPU fan just started to make a loud "replace me" sound. Just ordered Noctua NF A6x25 from amazon to try.

I use Noctua NF-R8 Redux 80mm fan. It's connected to the cpu-fan connector and has never failed on me. |
