I wanted to be the first to open a thread about 3.3 before the Angels sprinkle it down from Heaven. Each CLI command will drop one by one and you will have to assemble everything together on your WorkBench. Very sorry, Zorro II is no longer supported.

@DiscreetFX

There won’t be any AmigaOS3.3 if Cloanto is able to bankrupt Hyperion Entertainment, we know that Cloanto is not hiring developers, and is not making OS updates, all he does is bundle cracked / pirated software, abandonware developers worked hard for but is most likely not getting paid for anymore.

If Hyperion go bankrupt, and individual developers who is also (creditors) will paid with little assets that left in the company. Office chars, source code, or coffee mugs. In any case any additions owned by individual developers. Or try sell the parts to get money to pay creditors.

If A-EON makes updates or enhancement patches. Or maybe their own OS, it will be called something else maybe AEON OS3.3 or something like that? Who knows?

If Hyperion Entertainment somehow managed to replace all that they inhering from commodore, to stay out of Cloanto’s way, they can find new name maybe one of the female goddesses related to Greek god Hyperion?

in any case it will be a lot work of developers working for free will be needed to rescue it from legal twist it’s in. and lot of bug reports to get to same standard. Unless it can leverage open-source alternatives like AROS to fill in blank spots.

Of course, a miracle can happen one that does not Bankrupt Hyperion Entertainment, and allow Hyperion make enough money for developer and payback legal cost they have legal debt he has accumulated.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Just upgrade to a 68020 and use OS3.9 and pretend its AmigaOS 3.3! If you are just using it to open WHDLoad games or PageStream and you've replaced the printer drivers with TurboPrint then who cares?

@NutsAboutAmiga

Did you miss the part of the post that stated that Angels will drop 3.3 from Heaven. Nothing short of divine intervention will stop its release.

Expect 'Ben OS3.10' instead

@Thread

...I'm sure the AmigaOS 'volunteers' would give of their free time to work on the code they love even if it was in the name of the mighty Hyperi-ONE Ben himself!

Friend DiscreetFX,

3.3, as in FREE DOT FREE, will be released once that same band of devoted heroes who built 3.2 will realize that if they were to make the OS' codebase open-source tomorrow, there would be no court spending time on having it taken down, no legal consequences, nothing.

The notorious crooked attorney who snacks on Amiga users' dreams, developers' sweat, and tears of various kinds - could only powerlessly stomp his feet, unable to pile up more debt to sue this and that or create more shell companies.

AWARENESS, MY FRIENDS, AWARENESS.
IT BEGINS

Yeah right

What is this? One last illegal source leak to underline this sorry mess! One last blow to the remaining profitable branch of AmigaOS?

So you finally finished your movie, bought Amiga assets and 3.3 is your tool to take down Microsoft which is going to bankcrupt.

Microsoft are no longer the bad guys. The team behind DirectX were inspired by the Amiga and eventually helped the PC catch up as a passable home computer with multimedia features.

Microsoft was not really a treat, the treat came from bad management in commodore, not keeping up with the time, and not investing in the future. AmigaOS should have compete with MacOS, if they had invested more into true color graphics, it can have stayed relevant for long time if they did not cut corners everywhere. old DD floppy drive instead of HD, chunky graphics on Amiga1200, no dim sockets, no cdrom drive. And no buffered ide, no hard drive, CPU without MMU, no FPU, this where all design decisions to cut price, it also made Amiga less interesting as well, sure finding right price point is important, but they did not need to sell Amiga with the same specifications to all countries.

Amiga did not need to compete in server market, so Windows NT was irrelevant, the NT kernel only become relevant in 2000, so they had time. It was lack of aggressive strategy, be relevant in multiple key markets, Commodore was only looking at one market. They tried to make money by starving.

it was wrong to look at Microsoft that way, I don’t think Microsoft never needed to do anything agents commodore, sure Microsoft did many shitty things to DrDOS, trying to force Mozilla out the market and killing of Lotus and WordPerfect (hiding API’s bad docs, creating problems) and …, but it was not that that killed Commodore.

Amiga tried to be different, and different was not always a good thing.
Zorro III, made it hard to use the best graphic chips on the market, and sound cards.

Looks like people have forgotten comedy classics like this.

https://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3387&start=60#44909

Windows part comes from DiscreetFX's habit to ramble about MS going under after every new windows version Relase since Vista.

The movies funding fell through years ago but the blog has been going for some time and has more information than the movie would have. You can even buy the official T-Shirt. Many members from the Amiga community already bought theirs.

Let's compare Zorro III to other 32 bit buses.

VMEbus32 - 1981 release
NuBus - 1987 release
EISA - 1988 release
Zorro III - 1990 release in Amiga 3000 (should have been earlier and with AGA)
PCI 1.0 - 1992 release but not popular in PCs until 1994
PCI 2.1 - 1995 release allowing 66 MHz operation

VMEbus32 theoretical bandwidth is 40 MB/s
NuBus maximum burst throughput of 40 MB/s with average throughput of 10 to 20 MB/s
EISA theoretical bandwidth is 33 MB/s
Zorro III theoretical bandwidth is 150 MB/s
PCI 1.0 33MHz 32b theoretical bandwidth is 133 MB/s
PCI 2.1 66MHz 32b theoretical bandwidth is 266 MB/s

There were bugs in Busters which limited throughput but CBM cut R&D budgets and didn't have a clear development roadmap. There are other important factors besides throughput but Zorro III stands up pretty well as being flexible and relatively trouble free. The winners write the history books and define the industry standards though.

Huh, how can you leave out VME?!

Oh, and 3.3 will be just like 3.2, but without Reaction again.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Cloanto has no reputation for not paying developers - Hyperion has.

I wasn't sure what the bus width was as it supposedly started as 16 bit (68000 was only using 16 bits of 32 bit bus?) but I'll add what I think it is.

VME had strong 68k connections but the Amiga didn't use it. Maybe it required too much logic to support it compared to the relatively simple Zorro I which may be why the original Amiga team did not use it? Later, Dave Haynie maybe needed to keep compatibility with Zorro I? Atari did use VME.

Zorro III was good for the time but eventually was eclipsed by PCI years later. Zorro III was sabotaged by CBM management as described by Dave Haynie in the following e-mails.

Hey! you forgot 3.2.1.4

I'm happy that people enjoy these OS updates but to me they do nothing special.
