Poll : Continue to build new PPC hardware?
Become a retro platform with Raspberry Pi or other hardware?
Port to x86 or ARM and get a new mobo etc.
Switch to unix/linux core asap and build great Amiga like experience and call it AmigaX?

That is exactly what is being done.
The business plan is only one part of the equation. You don't need to be in the startup/investing game for as long as I have, to learn that investors invest in teams more than they invest in ideas with a good business plan.

Unfortunately, the global pandemic has set my plans back quite a bit, but I'm looking forward to getting back to assembling the team in 2022.

@agami,

Good Luck with that, governments have already decided that lockdown is the answer even though it doesn't help at all..........

To get new people less than forty years old, future Amiga have to be unix based.
Otherwise it will be just worse retro. Slow outdated and different from retro that we know.
It should be just unix -> Intuition -> mui.
Everything below Intuition should be cut off.

Or we may stay retro. Only real or fpga big endian cpu. 68k or ppc. No x86 or arm.

Fair enough, I always doubted the sanity of java developers...

No, they are not wasting time, they're having fun - you should try that some day, to have fun!

Michal even plans to merge both at the price of cutting amiga compatibility where necessary. What you describe is called "Aros hosted", Aros running as application on a host environment, f.e., on Linux. But there was no big interest in it.

To get really new users and expecially attract developers you must offer something really new. Just intuition or mui certainly is not enough.

pistorm turns Amiga into power supply and keyboard for rpi. It is waste of time.

To get really new users and expecially attract developers amiga solutions
on commodity hardware cannot be twenty years behind commodity os.
aros is too slow and outdated. nobody need win98 level os on x86 or arm.

No, it is emulating a 68k CPU for a very cheap price!

There aren't any apps to speak of. Interest would possibly be higher if there were.

In any case, AROS hosted on Linux isn't what @ppcamiga1 is describing.

Huh, no.
But anyone developing for java are developing for an emulator, that’s very much what any JVM is.

No linux under emu68 - that’s been the entire point all along, sigh.

The CSPPC/CVPPC turns my A3000 into a power supply and keyboard as well, so what’s the problem?

@kolla

It was made almost 25 years ago. in 1997 it was ok.
repeating this today with arm is extremely stupid.

Why? Arm works great as a coprocessor! Even the ZZ9000 graphics card has one! Is that considered cheating in your head?

@BigD

Yes I don't like worse retro.
Change to arm should be switch to something fast and decent.
No repeating what phase5 do more than 25 years ago.

The PPC 604 was one of the highest performance desktop CPUs in 1994-1995. There weren't any ARM CPUs close in performance until the StrongARM CPU was introduced in 1996. There were StrongARM CPUs with higher clock ratings than the PPC 604(e) but the the PPC 604(e) had much better performance/clock and likely better overall performance. Alpha CPUs had surpassed the PPC 604(e) in performance by the time StrongARM was introduced. The best ARM architecture CPU performance was likely behind that of the best Alpha, PPC, MIPS and x86 architecture CPU performance when StrongARM was introduced. ARM was a poor choice if desiring a high performance desktop architecture in the mid '90s and the ARM architecture today barely resembles the original ARM architecture.

I would like to see for low-end arm 12 core CPU. On the high end a 20 core arm. With an FPGA that does both mega 65 and vampire cores with the ability to share data with the parent OS. Current RAM modules and SSDs. The ability to run Windows and Mac software in a virtual machine or hypervisor. A new OS based on the Amiga OS. A good graphic ability, but not state of art. Like the 1080 or newer Radeon 6800 non-XT. Add a good web browser. I do not think this would happen, but I can hope.
