My X5000 has finally arrived after spending some time with UK Customs.

Now here’s the problem, I thought. Ok, let’s try out these CDs that have been included, Enhancer Software CD, a game CD……..

OK, where do I stick ‘em…..

Hmm, No CD or DVD drive included, OK not a big problem, I’ve got a few spares knocking around…….Spare SATA drive located……

Hmm, Ok, X5000 supplied in rather a large case, hmm, space where the drive would normally go is taken up with 3 huge fans that light up pretty colours. (Is this a computer or a Fisher Price toy ? )

Can’t see anywhere to mount an optical drive in the case !

This case has a total of 6 fans, for a machine that runs cool anyway.

Looks like this X5000 will be looking for a new home shortly 🙂

@AmigaOneProductions

Well maybe because you can boot of a USB cdrom, if you have one.
(or USB Stick if you are lucky to have that included.)

Yes, it sounds like a crazy build, is this a used X5000 or new from AEON?

@NutsAboutAmiga

It's from Amedia.

@AmigaOneProductions

Is OS4.1 and Enhancer already installed by Amedia?

Looks like some custom setup that this particular reseller has decided to offer. Official X5000 case looks like this http://www.a-eon.com/?page=x5000

@jPV

You’re probably right, Amedia were the only place I could find one in stock at the time.

I’m not bothered that no drive was supplied, it’s the crazy large case that’s full of fans and nowhere to fit a drive, if I remove the fans, there is no mounting hardware to hold anything in place

@NutsAboutAmiga

There's no info on the actual card supplied and the picture of the inside of the case shows a different card installed. I hope they at least supply something compatible with Warp3D Nova.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Oh yes, I could use a usb stick, then what is the point of supplying optical media in the package, I could get an external usb dvd drive, but that just looks daft when there is such a huge space

New home required after Holidays

@AmigaOneProductions

Why not grab a normal PC case from somewhere, it does need to be an expensive case! take dumpster dive, on the FaceBook used market I see people giving away old PC’s with pretty much all you need.

I’m actually more worried about the graphic card.

That’s what I meant by the X5000 getting a new home 😈

I’ve got a more sensible PC case here I can swap things over with 😁

@AmigaOneProductions

It's really disappointing that the only remaining source of X5000 machines has dropped the ball on such a collosal scale! Style over substance springs to mind!

I hope the A1222 Plus launch goes without similar embarrassment! I'd ask for a replacement case personally but I could see it was a garish RGB monstrosity from the website! Bad luck mate!

@BigD

Definitely style over substance
At least I can turn off the flashy lights, a button on the case sorts that.

It’s been built to look like a gamer PC.

It’s not a problem to me really, I just thought the situation was a bit funny 😆

@AmigaOneProductions

I've seen more SFF cases ditching 5.25 bays recently but there's no reason to do it it with a full ATX case.

Do you know what video card you have yet?

@AmigaOneProductions

There's no 3D support for HD5450. Dealers shouldn''t really be supplying them by this stage. You'll need one of the following cards.

Radeon HD 77xx-79xx series graphics card (excluding the Radeon HD 7790)
Radeon HD R7 240/240D
Radeon HD R7 250E/250/250X/265
Radeon HD R9 270/270X/280/280X
Radeon RX 460/470/480/540/550/560D/560/570/580

If you don't already have a compatible card hanging around the RX550 or RX560 is a good choice and will be able to play 4k video using the video card's decoding hardware. The compatible cards are all in the second hand market now but prices are inflated due to chip shortages keeping the current generation at price over £400. I remember bulk sellers on Ebay selling used RX550 cards for less than £40 a piece before the pandemic. Now you'll be doing well if you find one that's closer to £100 than it is to £200.

AOTL included a CD burner with my X5000 but that was 3 years ago and
I don't believe they sell the X5000 anymore. I didn't get the pretty strobing lights but is that required? Good luck with your X5000 and enjoy it. It is a great system.
