| It's nice to see more hardware. However, a word of warning.
The actual cost is in the "consider this" section. Nothing wrong, and I appreciate it is written on the page.
I know some people could hit the buy button and cry when the other 500 eur bill pops up.

It's all over the news now. Shame it's the same speed. Ten years after the X1000 and they still can't produce a machine to match it. Only in the PPC world do things not only stay the same but get worse! Sorry sounds negative but this is how it is and it's not on the wild side. |

Wow just wow!! Are the Bill of Materials (BOMs) for these that much easier to source than the A1222 Plus that it is worth prioritising a batch prior to more A1222 Plus machines? Seriously weird messaging from ACube and by extension A-EON who consider them "hardware partners" not necessarily competitors! Trouble at mill for the A1222 Plus me thinks!!!

Great news for all of us.
I see Acube will probably supoort our platform for many years and in case of decadence it will be anotheror other companies supporting the Amiga that is the most important things.
Going to test now Duke Nukem 3D that I downloaded the DATA files this morning.
And remember that the Amiga has not said yet its last word... _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

| First I thought that I buy one right a way, but then I realiced, that 289€ is just for a preorder.
Total prize with VAT is :
902€
That is just no way! It is perfectly possible produce PPC hardware much more cheaper prices. That has been proven many times.
And this even doesn't have ram included! Last edited by utri007 on 15-Feb-2022 at 07:52 PM. Last edited by utri007 on 15-Feb-2022 at 07:51 PM.

| Yikes!
I was *almost* going to seriuosly think about purchasing this board, but considering the actual end price PLUS the way it's being sold (I can easily see how impulse buyers might end up pressing "add to cart" without realizing they still need to add a whopping 500+ EUR) I'm sorry but it's a huge NO if you ask me.
The sooner AmigaOS can run on cheap, powerful hardware, the better. Last edited by Turrican3 on 16-Feb-2022 at 05:58 PM.

That's a lot of money just to run BenOS.

Some consider that a privilege.
There are those of us that have old PC parts laying around from upgrades, but for many the total cost will be well over 1,000 Euro by the time they get a case, PSU, RAM, GPU, storage, keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.
I'm not interested in some last hurrah for a 1.1GHz Power ISA board. I could do a tone more with a Raspberry Pi 4 at a 10th of the cost._________________ All the way, with 68k |

Considering the starting and final prize...Could this be a good Amiga for emulation? I mean if it can run satisfactorily and quick the great M.A.M.E. emulator?
On my X5000 it runs like a dream and...
OFF-TOPIC: Can I get an X-Arcade USB double joystick and plug and play MAME (version 1.06) to play roms with a joystick support? Are there any versions of MAME under AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2 that works with USB joysticks? I think there is one called version 151 and is great,it has USB joystick support but the framerate is of hell.To be clear, can I play MAME with joystick under AmigaOS 4.1?
Thanks a lot men _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

Not as good as your X5000, my sam460ex compared to the X1000 was 40% in performance. But RadeonHd/Nova/Warp3D does envolve, maybe it does run Mame better then sometime ago. Like other games who have much more frames now, but Mame is cpu hungry I think at this moment.

I kind of thinking the same, I mean Acube might of just had some existing stock and thought it was easier to make a few of these than the A1222 Plus, or they just cant get A1222 Plus made till much later in the year and so best release this now as a stop gap measure?
Price is a bit high for old hardware now, but I guess with the lack of other OS4 options out there at the moment (I mean Im not sure but is the X5000 all sold out now?) and plus a little more of the focus of OS4 development has been about getting more use out of the Graphics cards rather than the CPU's so maybe CPU doesn't matter as much, I mean the A1222 Plus demo at Amiwest was pretty clear with optimisation the system could run most apps / games well with CPU missing FPU, I guess this work might help Sam460 boards too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrCFEjoUtng
actually does anyone know what the difference in performance is between the NXP QorIQ P1022 vs AMCC 460exLast edited by amigang on 16-Feb-2022 at 12:09 PM.

'most' games, but how many are optimized ?
Voxelnoid is a slideshow on the Amiwest movie, on the Sam460ex it is playable!
And that game does use Warp3D according to the readme on Os4depot, so maybe not even that cpu/fpu demanding for a P1022.
Maybe the Trampoline translation/emulation software is still weak or was disabled on the Amiwest movie, who knows.

yes, the cache handling on sam460ex.
There was issue on sam460 with L2 cache, in PDF it says is should handle by the hardware snoop mechanism, I find no other reference to the” hardware snoop mechanism” in the pdf.
https://datasheet.octopart.com/PPC460EX-NUB800T-AMCC-datasheet-11553412.pdf
Quote:
Use as an L2 cache improves processor performance and reduces the PLB load – Cache coherency maintained by a hardware snoop mechanism on the Low Latency (LL) Processor Local Bus (PLB) or by software |
That’s the only place I find anything about Cache coherency as well. Its whery likely this is handled by software not the hardware snoop mechanism
There is Block Diagram on page 6 of the PDF, that shows everything is connected to the PLB.

that’s like buying a new car garage, every time buy a car. Its silly throws a way good keyboard & mouse, I expect people some old graphic cards, somewhere. A new PSU of a good quality brand is most likely good investment, from my experience PSU break the most often. low quality PSU more often.

Well, the is no 3d drivers for AmigaOS3.2 or AROS that can take advantage of embedded 3d chip of the arm CPU. I expect 3d and video capabilities of Radeon RX cards is bit more powerful. anywhy it’s nice to be able run WarpOS, PowerUP and AmigaOS4.x software, software for AmigaOS3.x and can be a bit old, LOL… 3D games for classic Amiga is pretty bad, Quake, Doom, Heretic, and that’s about it.

| Wow...that's lots of money! Can't the whole thing be plopped into and FPGA? That would be cool.
