@thinkchip

I followed the guide posted by jPV above and set legacy SMB support in Win10. Next step was to correctly set shared directory on the Win10 side (with read/write rights for Everyone and Guest). Then I verified my Win10 notebook share is visible on another Win10 PC (it was not) and fine tuned sharing prefs until it was really accessible there. In the end, I used an example from the smbfs documentation with PCGuest as a user... and it works.

Allowing both computers to share common directory is really nice. Eg. I prepare an image as a basis for an icon on my notebook (who would have guessed MSPaint is so well suited for this task? ) and then simply copy it (or save) to the shared directory - and OS4 can use it right away. No USB flash needed. It is useable even for larger files (I copied cca 2 GB of data, with one interruption when the network collapsed), but I assume USB2.0 transfer will be better choice for this (more stable and probably also faster than my WiFi network in that room with Pegasos2).

That must be the comment of the month.

I stumbled across simple transfer a few months ago. I use it for OS 4 to OS 4 xfers but it supports Windows and is very easy to use. It's not perfect but works well.

I could switch on another OS4 machine and try that together.

Personally, I use zitaftp to move files between my x5k and PC. While it's fast it is not cheap.

The fastest solutions usually are.
