Just port OSfreakin4 to Mac Mini PPC already!

Hmmmm, now who would want to stick a fork in that idea!

@Amiga4000

I saw it running on a Mac Mini way over 5 years ago. Around 2014 if memory serves me correctly.

@Karlos

Saw an iBook G4 running MorphOS recently = very nice!

Do we need AmigaOS/System 54?

@Thread

I'm not trying to start a flame war

... but beyond the need for it to continue for the Tabor to launch, and the fact it's nice to have the official AmigaOS branding (that can't continue currently with System 54 anyway) what can you do on AmigaOS PPC that you can't on MorphOS?

Honest question.

No one directly works for Hyperion other than lawyers! The coders that present themselves to work under modern slavery type work conditions are only interested in AmigaOS3.2 it seems. Hyperion won't pay for any more porting and seems to view NG as a dead end. They are IMHO sat on their hands waiting for A-EON to cough up 10 times any sane asking price for the license just to pay their court bills! They've become a sick company.

All A-EON needs to do is wait it out and Mike will release the source code for free when he wins the court case!

P.S. IMHO every penny of our money spent in AmigaOS 3.2 slows the process down and delays NG (and AmigaOS classic development really) being freed up for further development.

The only sane way forward is to boycott Hyperion and it pains me to deduce that considering they made AmigaOS 4.x happen!

They never delivered Worms Armageddon though but seem quite happen to bring armageddon to AmigaOne and AmigaOS 4.x now it isn't bringing in as much profit as AmigaOS 3.2!

Remember the video? Might have been on a Powerbook now I think of it.

RE: MorphOS and System54

For 22 years the Blind Amiga Fanatics here and elsewhere said stuff like "MorphOS ain't Amiga"and refused to use it whilst slinging all kind of mud against the MOS Team, but some of the very same people are now cheering on another cheap clone of Amiga OS cobbled together in a few years? Madness

Some of the very same people said MorphOS was based on stolen code (It wasn't) yet don't some of the guys working on System54 have access to the AmigaOS source?

The hypocrisy and outright cognitive dissonance is hilarious.

@BigD

Theres no guarantee that those working on os3.x/morphos/os4.x/aros/whatever have any interest in working on any of the others, so no, working on one doesn't necessarily mean it slows down progress on another.

As for what OS4.x has that MOS doesn't, a much more modern gfx subsystem.
MOS is very lacking in that regard.

@fishy_fis

My point was that funding Hyperion (enabled by fanatics working on the code for free) drags out the court case and hence slows development because of legal uncertainty. I know for sure that this has indeed hampered Stephen Jones' efforts to officially support the Amiga companies or to work directly with them.

In addition, Mike told me that it was 'lucky' Cloanto's licensing deal for THE A500 Mini was finalised in 2016 as that couldn't happen today.

@Amiga4000

Porting to cheap existing hardware, or teaming up with other parties interested in creating ppc hardware outside the Amiga circle (larger numbers can be produced, ergo prices could be reduced) could only be good for the platform.
Not only does it lower the price of admission, but it creates a larger pool of people capable of running the system, more potential developers, more recognition outside the usual circle, and so on and so forth.

What it doesn't do however is feed egomaniacs or narcissists need for attention, which would kill their desire to be involved.
A need to be center stage; a focal point, appears more and more a driving force all the time.
This makes common sense moot.

I tried so hard to get that loader to run! For like a couple weeks - even modifying the code.

This thread was when I first saw the code released out in the wild...

AmigaOS runs on Mac MINI! Moana Project revealed!
