| Hi
Which of the RadeonHD/RX gfxcards that fit an X1000 is the most silent, least powerhungry of the gfxcards that are supported by Hans' video decoding driver?
I would like to upgrade from my HD6570 card to one that supports video decoding, but I don't want a 250W power moster that sounds like a vaccuum cleaner. That's out of the question. I find it hard to find the power rating and which have a fan or not etc.
If it supports 4k display, and possibly even 4k video decoding that would be a big plus
Thanks for your input. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

I'd personally recommend a Radeon RX 550. It supports 4K screens and video decoding. It's TBP is 50W, so it doesn't double as a space heater even when maxed out.

I don't think we can use RX cards yet until CFE on X1000's gets updated...see latest thread over at amigans
@ Hans
thanks looks like a nice small card _________________ ____________________________ c64-2sids, A1000, A1200T-060@50(finally working!),A4000-CSMKIII ! My Master Miggies- Amiga 1000 & AmigaOne X1000 ! mancave-ramblings X1000 I BELIEVE |

Good luck. I bought the Sapphire Pulse RX550 2GB. Seems to work well enough. Up to 4k VA with ~5% CPU utilisation is impressive. Just a shame that you have to give up the CFE boot menu on X1000 to get RX working. |

Thanks, nice!

As long as it boots I'd be happy enough. Haven't had boot problems for years. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

| So any details on this hack? I followed some links to a German post. It gives details on CFE commands but nothing I could see would change anything. And then something about a GPIO jumper.
In any case I wouldn't like to use it blind. If something goes wrong I can't see it. And I can't pick any OS4 or Linux I have from a boot menu so no good for me.
Good to see it can work though. |

| So now I'm sitting here with a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX560 2GB and was just about to buy the RadeonRX driver. But where? It's not in AmiStore. It shows only the RadeonHD driver, not RX. Need the enhancer too and that's there though.
Do you have your own store, Hans? _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

The RX driver is included with Enhancer 2. |

Yes I do.
However, A-EON Technology owns the drivers. I'm just the contractor who writes the drivers.

Thanks.
@Hans
I had a vague recollection that you had your own site, yes Anyway, I'll just get the Enhancer2.2 then.
BTW: Any chance I can run both the HD6750 and thr RX560 at the same time, or atleast have them in the machine together? Boot on the HD and have WB on the RX _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

So I put in the RX560 together with the HD6750 and the machine doesn't event attempt to boot and starts no video output on any card.
Seems like the one who wrote the CFE video startup code wasn't the greates at forseeing the future.... sign.. (I'm allegic to stupidity)
If CFE doesn't event recognize the RX, why on earth would it stop there and not event attempt to look further, find the HD and start it?!? It's on the level of not putting the boot disk in PIO-4 mode before loading the kickstart, and not even have a setting for it (, incase being afraid someone would put such an old disk in the machine that doesn't even support PIO-4). Writing code like this, and having it burnt into a ROM is just jaw dropping to me.... _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

Theoretically, yes. However, as you've discovered, other software can get in the way. IIRC, dual graphics cards have always been problematic on OS4.
The Entwickler-X guys found a workaround to get past the CFE freeze with Radeon RX cards. I cannot remember how it's done, and have no idea if it'll work with two graphics cards plugged in.
