@OlafS25 It sounds like if and when the 1222 does arrive, it is either likely to be in very limited quantities and at a high price or to have little to no profit margin for Acube/A-Eon. With the CPUs currently costing four times what A-Eon payed for their current stock piles they may be better off scrapping A1222 plans and selling off the CPUs.

@number6

Thanks for posting links.

Nice progress, hopefully we can see all those products out.

Good comment (quite abvious) about Amiga future, that we need software like Libre Office and good web browser. That will allow Amiga to be used as a daily computer for many.

I also think that there are people who look for alternatives to Windows, MacOs, Linux to use as personal computers. There is a chance for those.

BTW. Trevor mention they have thousands of cpus for A1222 already purchased years back. Nice 🙂

Ron Nicholson at 6:15? https://youtu.be/n-jGYap3URQ?t=375

There is a Carolyn Scheppner and Dave Haynie lookalikes but I don't think it is them.

@matthey

I was informed that Dave was indeed at the show.

@IanP

Just because speculative chip brokers are asking the price doesn't mean A-EON could immediately offload their own stock at that price.

Trevor had already considered selling the boards at cost price but it's still obviously going to be higher than originally planned. I think people will still buy it because demand for the Sam460LE is strong despite it being higher priced than the original full fat Sam460. Enrico said there will be no more Sam boards after current run but there'll still be people that want something cheapy than the X5000.

Getting the A1222 on the market will also mean more customers for their Enhancer packs and other software.

I'm hoping there'll be a public unveiling of a 100% x86_64 port of MorphOS.

Don’t hold your breath for that one!

Althogh there is a new multi-platform kernel with SMP support etc that was used to run MorphOS on an x64 machine in a public demo a few years ago, I’d say that it doesn’t feel like a top priority among MorphOS team members, perhaps it’s just an ambition of one individual even?

However, there seem to have been some talk at the Amiga37 about adding USB3 support in MorphOS being kind of a requirement since this is becoming mandatory on newer x64 machines, that relies on USB3 controllers even for legacy USB2 and USB1 support. And apparently this seems to be on the to-do list, but this will also require a complete overhaul of the interrupt handling mechanism of MorphOS.

Adding USB3 support to MorphOS could IMHO be seen as a sign of a future x64 migration, since USB3 hardly makes sense on our old PPC architecture with limited bandwidth and processing power anyway. The ongoing overhaul and feature expansion of the MorphOS gfx drivers will also benefit and clear a path for MorphOS towards new and more powerful hardware.

@TRIPOS

perhaps Aros will be MorphOS done right when it has moved to Linux

sorry could not resist

To Amiga 37 and NG

it seems that this event clearly shows the current situation. The community is not only living but growing. The growth is solely "traditional Amiga" (=68k), NG is only a small niche in a niche. That is basically true for all NG platforms (Aros, MorphOS and AmigaOS). Aros is the only small exception there because of the ApolloOS based on Aros 68k.

I see no change there except there is really something interesting outside current community. That might be the case if Aros will be based on Linux and MorphOS has done ISA change. Then growth "might" not only come from 68k. But that has to be seen...

There is a chance to recover better than 100% of the money spent on the A1222 CPU mistake? Is it not obvious how bad of a mistake this bastard CPU choice with no FPU was but people think it is better to throw good money after bad to bring it to market anyway? Sell, sell, sell!

Post #6 in this thread has a link to the same video but if you want to make fun of us English speakers then fine. For how short of German word it is, "Mönchengladbach" is not even that difficult to pronounce. Oh well, I guess the other video was not associated with as big of a celebrity as AmigaBill.

I found the video with Ron Nicholson and Dave Haynie on stage. The video misses the start and it could be better quality but nice to see these videos. I wish the Amiga 37 videos were better organized on YouTube.

Here's a AmigaBill's live stream from Sunday, giving a nice overview. Unfortunately the sound is pretty bad. Nevertheless more interesting to watch than those big-stage interviews IMHO.

@FairBoy
Thanks for the link to Amiga Bill's video. He was much more interactive with the walk through despite the late start on Sunday, audio problems and Ron Nicholson's interview at the end being cut off (your a legend, cut). We got to see most of the rev 6 68060 capable Amiga accelerators in the video, Terrible Fire, Warp and Individual Computers. Only missing the BFG 68060 accelerator of the ones I'm aware of.

100MHz 68060 - the BFG9060
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgE1xg1xCZ0

The CSMKIII used to have the fastest memory but the race is on for the fastest memory. The BFG with 68060@100MHz has 90MiB/s performance which blows away anything back in the day. The higher clock speed and better memory performance really wakes up the 68060 (CISC CPUs are memory munching monsters). Jens Schönfeld talked about a 68060@120MHz but also that rev 6 CPUs are selling for $800 on E-bay while he still has some in stock. The Amiga 1200 accelerator costing ~1000 Euros is really not that bad considering the cost of a rev 6 68060. He will probably run out of stock in no time. The lack of high performance 68k CPUs is a problem for a retro 68k Amiga rebirth that needs to be addressed. The Apollo FPGA core is for Amiga users that can't find a rev6 68060 although SAGA offers good value at least. There is a big enough retro market for everyone. As for the PPC AmigaNOne hardware, still no response to how many units the lots of Sam board sales is, as expected. A lot to them is probably something like 50 Sams while the Amiga Mini probably sold 50,000 units and it is just emulation, has no AmigaOS and isn't even that cheap unless compared to AmigaNOne hardware.

Indeed. Ron Nicholson is currently the most important person because it was directly involved on the Amiga project and IMO he's not getting what he deserves.

It was a great pleasure talking with him at the first Amiga32 event in Germany.

Of the very early hardware engineers, Joe Decuir is often overlooked too. Both Ron and Joe wanted to work with Jay Miner.

Yes, he's another one which I'd like to meet and discuss on some other Amiga event. Let's see.
