I imagine it may be two copy type of process. That's the problem with a complex system that HFS had. Neat idea and fine by itself but it presents problems with data sharing. Windows tended to reply on extensions so without any association the MacHandler would need to rely on the extension to set the resource to the correct type.
The Amiga didn't need the extensions and apps would examine the contents. But that is no good for the MacHandler as needing to read inside files would slow it down. Of course with any data transfer back and forth it would need to read or write data anyway so it can still check.
The Amiga did present sharing problems as the protection bits needed preserving is some applications. And info files lost the 'o'. CrossDOS could rename .info to .inf and back again.
I'm still not sure why folders stop being seen by Workbench once more Mac picture files get saved! Very odd! Other than copy the enclosing folder to Workbench and then copying it back across to the Mac side I don't see an obvious solution!
