Now nearly over but watch at your leisure! Use your Amiga rather than moan! Look what can be achieved!

It's not difficult.

All right, good lad BigD,
only took you 3 attempts.

Moving on -

Let me show you a problem with these art showcases,
and "Made On Amiga" showcases in general.

There's the good stuff. Like this:

It fits the theme. It somewhat harkens back to the loading screens of those days,
give its resolution and colors you could display it on a classic amiga,
but most importantly it's competently made.

Then, there's stuff like this

The hosts don't even joke about it,
they treat it as seriously as they can, even going as far as talking about its "use of gradients".

This is a pattern in the amiga community, and a heavily detrimental one, oh friends.
You can see it beautifully represented in the image gallery there on the right of this Amigaworld dot net of ours.

What pattern I hear you asking?

That users will showcase/post/submit/promote the most amateurish crap,
whether it's a program, picture or anything else,
and the community will promptly stand up and clap their hands,
as one usually does at a primary school play between a nap and another.

This bowing to the Amiga users because there are so few left,
this encouraging further production of crap,
only strengthens the association of "Amiga" with "That community of weirdos who'll get any trash you throw at them as long as it bears the name"

Like, for instance,
hugely overpriced and underpowered hardware 7 years in the making with crippled FPUs.

BUT!
The show must go on.
Bring on the masterful use of gradients.

/m!

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Calling men presenting as women lovely is cringy. The humiliation rituals we endure so as not to offend.

@Thread

Or you could just enjoy the art! If you don't want amateurs to take part then start your own elite competition and start dividing and excluding people! Seriously, how to twist things!

@Thread

You could come at it from the other angle that it's unfair to give a prize to Eric Swartz when he IS a professional! However, IMHO each piece should be judged on their individual merit.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

I assume he's talking about Vicky/Pixel Vixen. Again, why stir? Vicki wasn't even involved in the judging this year!

@BigD

I didn't say anything about that, nor I remember the hosts saying anything like that.
Do we have a new champion in the voices-in-my-head category?

/m

@BigD

Finally a statement I can agree with. Stop dividing people by calling them amateurs, and give everyone participation prizes, instead of being elitists and rewarding professionals.

@Signman

Just as irrelevant! Just enjoy the art and leave the gender politics out of this. Just call the individual by their chosen name or you wont even be able to be civil. We all choose our own avatars on here so what's the difference? Whether you sign up to their new pronouns is up to you.

And then,

the skies turned crimson, an ominous horn echoed in the distance, the earth was shaken:
it finally happened -

I agreed with BigD.

- Mega

ps. still, most of that "art" is terrible and hurts the Amiga name,
and the so called "gender identity" is an aberration
