It's the 24th of December. Were you on the naughty or nice list? Is the North Pole mired with logistical issues? Has Santa's workshop been hit with supply chain issues and unionised elves?

I'm not here to revel in anyone's less-than-happy last week of 2022. Just noticed it's been very quiet on the SAM460LE front.

I'm curious about your original source of faith regarding A-Eon/Acube, that it remains unshaken. My well runneth dry many seasons ago.

May the promised land appear on all our horizons in 2023.

A'm still waiting for Tabor/A1222, that is since 2014. As a faithful disciple of Bill McEwen, my patience in regard to Amiga things is unlimited.

Bill McEwen? A weird person to idolise! Jim Collas was the last major mainstream ally we ever had. Though Bill and Co. sure did sell a mean Amiga mug and Christmas Card Maker!

Quote:
He bought an Amiga in 1998, and hasn't gone back to other computers since. "My first response was the Amiga was dead," he said. "I was shocked to learn there were hundreds and hundreds of thousands of users out there."

Source of Bill McEwen knowledge

It’s normal to give presents after dinner in Norway, when family is together.

Typically, 200-1000 NOK, so a sam460 will be out of the price range, for a gift from an aunt or uncle. But Dads and moms buy more expensive gifts to their own kids.

Warp060 yah many of amiga kits require you actually own an Amiga, before you can upgrade it, these things are none giftable.

Most of Amiga things will be out of the price range that also includes the Vampire standalone.

the AmigaMini is plastic Chinese toy, I see these things are being sold everywhere, but I don’t see any new users? Who buys it what are used for? It does nothing you can’t do in WinUAE or FSUAE or another emulator (is actually growing the userbase?). How long can you entertain today’s kids with Mario brothers like games? or just they most likely download a SNES emulator and be done with it.

Who needs the plastic toy, when you can just find emulator on the desktop? how long before emulator icon despair between the 1000, icons? and you forget about it.

Amiga games usually sider scrollers, or top-down games, I think today’s kids are used a lot better graphics, and also multiplayer is a lot more social compared to single player games of the past.

who do you normal buy a car for? yourself or someone else, consider that kids of 80's now, have good paying job, and can afford to not pirate copy anymore.

From the Amiga 37 talk, the Sam was supposed to ship in November and the Tabor in December or January but it is all meaningless when they can't secure the supply chain!

ACube announced on December 19th that boards are ready for shipment:

Quote:
Hello dear customers and friends,

December brought us some gifts that you will soon have on your desk: the first batch of Sam460LE. These boards have brilliantly passed all functional tests from the assembly line, and now we are manually testing every single unit as per our quality assurance standards.

As we complete testing the boards, we will start shipping in chronological order starting from top to bottom of our orders queue.

We are almost there, just a bit more patience and the first customers should start receiving the Sam460LE before the end of the year.

We are confident that yours patience will be rewarded by a well-tested product that you will surely enjoy using.

Still waiting, but I'm hopeful. I got used to that 1 year in Amiga world is about 7 in reality 😁.

There was new patch for Uboot released yesterday, with support for R7 240 and up. I think that is nice.

https://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=news&id=156

IMO that deserves front page announcement.

@PixelHi

No USB booter or USB updater Strange given it doesn't have a floppy updater. The PDF says the update is from 2019.

So, it's now the 11th day of Christmas!

Quote:
On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, eleven pipers piping...

So the question is:

Has there been a Christmas miracle with you piping the arrival of your Sam460LE mobo? Have you had time to assemble it? Will all you 'Sam Lords' be leaping tomorrow or are you more like the Doughnut Lord from the Sonic 2 movie; talking to your sweet confectionery trying to ride out the disappointment of a delayed arrival with a glucose hit?

Pray tell and a Happy New Year for 2023!

@kolla

It's fantastic the work that has been done for the Sonnet PPC cards but unfortunately the project doesn't support the A1200 with a mediator which Shark PPC promised A1200 support.

The Sonnet PPC project supports mediator systems for A4000 and A3000 only.

Shark PPC was suppose to be released in 2001 which is the point @_ThEcRoW was making.

Funny how they're the only vendors making zero headway with their "supply chain". While these guys complain about supply chain issues, you have a guy in Arizona finding a way to get custom keycaps made for a 40+ year old computer from a factory in China! Other retro hardware is shipping without issue.

They either suck at what they do, or they just don't care. Can't keep blaming it on COVID.

When there's a will, there's a way!

@Kremlar

You truly have no clue what you are talking about. Keycaps and computer chips are in no way even remotely similar and I can tell you for a fact that getting any kind of computer chips today is a freakin nightmare.

The chip companies are starting to provide chips more and more on a daily basis but they are starting with the chips that are the most lucrative to them before spending any time on lessor projects. And believe me, anything Amiga related is a lesser project for all of them

We will be lucky to see anything by 2024 at the rate things are going.

Sorry, I got my Christmas gifts mixed up! Oh dear! I must rephrase: it is not Sam Lords leaping but drummers beating out a death knell on the Christmas festival and of the Christmas dream of AmigaOne machines reborn! The twelfth day ends, the AmigaOne stalls but the Classic lives! The PiStorm32 is nearly here and with it cheap and fast accelerators for the Classics again! A true miracle for 2023!

They found a way to ship the MEGA65. I can't think of 1 other hardware project that has been completely dead in the water. Reality is A1222 was announced, what, in 2015 going into beta? They couldn't come close to shipping in 4+ years before COVID. The reason hasn't changed. People good at what they do find ways to get it done.

It is also funny that the PPC laptop will be fully prototyped and possible start coming off the production line at a similar time to the 2nd and first main batch of the A1222 Plus at this rate!

Obviously, the porting of AmigaOS will take A(n)..eon Sorry couldn't resist, it's all just Hyper(ion)...bole! Whoops I did it again!
