One thing I saw at the Kickstart uk event was a prototype/proof of concept mini Arm / Amiberry computer named A600 GS by Amigakit.

This looked basically like another A500mini type system, I did stop and talk to the dev who basically described as much.

I thought I took a picture of it, but can’t see to find it now, but it was just a very tiny, think more pi zero size motherboard in a super tiny case with Ethernet, 2*usb c, and one full size usb.

(Found the photo https://photos.app.goo.gl/PpxDc2NLaxCv4vi67 )

No idea on price or license agreement or when it due. I forgot to take notes. So I know I don’t have much details, but I do have the website

Official website
https://www.a600gs.com/

Anyway would you be interested?

@amigang

AmigaKit has posted a little information over on their wiki: http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php/A600GS

@amigang

What am I looking at? That little black pack of playing cards thing? RGL have not much to fear unless Cloanto get behind it! Where's the RGL A600 Maxi got to?

@BigD

I agree.

I want an A600-like case with a usable integrated keyboard. It can be a smaller case than the OG A600, and it can even be a chiclet keyboard, but it must be usable.

Amiberry on a Raspberry Pi 400, throw a ticket sticker on it and call it your A400.

(IMO this A600 GS would be better off as a "CD32 mini")

@kolla

Already have a Raspberry Pi 3b and a 4b. Also I can emulate the Amiga on the Nvidia Shield, and other Windows, macOS, and Linux desktop and laptop computers.

Yes, I will also accept a CD32 mini.

The key point being, like The A500 Mini it needs to go beyond what 90% of us can hack together using our existing hardware or by buying a SBC.

I want a product, not a project.

One thing I wished I asked was the license agreement. As with my interview and talk to Cloanto I was kind of explained without the lawsuit settled, AmigaOS / Workbench couldn't be part of the A500mini.

So with this having Personal Paint and OctaMED included I would think it would have to have access to the OS, unless there creating straight start up commands, or is this all being powered by Aros / Aros kickstart replacement.

So I repeat - a Raspberry Pi 400 is *exactly* what you want.

My impression is it will be akin to the MiST/Mister/Vampire v4.

@RobertB

Knowing who has been working on the software, I'm confident it will be a quality product. Depending on price and availability, if it's available at AmiWest, I might pick one up.

No, because that is a Pi 400 with no OS or software bundle.

Sure, the innards of the Pi 400, but I want something that looks more Amigafied, with a nice boot menu to launch into Arcade mode (games library) or Desktop mode (OS 3.x), with a selection of games out of the box, a la A500 Mini.

I can get a Pi 400 for $160 AUD. I’d happily pay 3x to get the device I’ve described above.

Heh, maybe not at this Amiwest... After what Matthew told me, something else has to happen first.

Pi400 has quite a few Pi images that are Amiga themed,

I cover the main ones here
https://amigang.com/software-pii/

Yes some require a very little bit of work to get setup, but it’s not that hard. Just need a 64gb sd card, and the Amiga roms, download a pi image, like amikit xe, and you got one of the best desktop setups. Download Amiga game selector, and you got nearly every Amiga game ever released in a easy selection mode.

@amigang

What's the selling point of this? Why should I feel compelled to put money here instead of any other hardware (which I may already own or that I can buy for cheap) + licensed ROMs?

Those are FPGA systems, this is not, this is an ARM system with an emulator.

Since when was that a requirement? Also, why would you even want that? Don’t you already have everything you need in terms of OS and software?

Don’t ask me, ask Amigakit.

I said during the A500mini, if you where not fused about the eye candy, a pi400 was cheaper and better in every way for a all in one complete emulation fix.

Basically I feel that amigakit looked at the a500mini thought they could do better and are making the a600gs,

I think if they can provide more content and make it say half the price of a500mini I could see some people being interested in picking one up.

Some people don’t want to or cant figure out how to set up a Amiga system on there pi, (it is quite easy) but also might want more than the a500mini offered, like internet features, access to Os without mods etc.

If your an Amiga nut already with the hardware etc then likly this is not for you, but if you got family, friends (that you might want a low cost option to give as a gift) or people who just have a passing interest in Amiga / retro systems and the a500mini didn’t quite do it for them or was over priced, or missing features etc then I could see this being a solution.
