In my view, anyone exposed to the operating system and the bundled productivity software included in David Pleasance's UK bundles would have dabbled in general home computer use beyond games. Heck, they had to beg their parents that they needed an Amiga because they could do their homework on it didn't they! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." There is some software technology shared from the Enhancer Software
The V54 commands which have been developed over many years have been recompiled for 68K. These are identical in functionality but have V46 versioning. Additionally AK-Datatypes, Tabbed Gadget Class have all been ported across. _________________ Amiga Kit Amiga Store Links: www.amigakit.com | New Products | A600GS |

So an arm soc board with Linux and uae, sold with OS 3.1 and some “enhancements” preinstalled to compete with OS 3.2 and ReAction? _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

I doubt you’ll see a “product” bundle as you describe using Emu68 anytime soon, as Emu68 is specifically targeting Raspberry Pi hardware, and nothing else. So the only company that would be able to make the “bundle” you appear to want would be Raspberry Pi themselves.
Oh, and I don’t get it - If you don’t like DIY, why on earth are you wasting time with Amiga? Amiga - the computer for the creative mind - remember? It was always a lot of DIY with Amiga.

AmigaKit is selling PiStorm/RPi 3A+/32GB micro-SD (or 64GB micro-SD) bundle. https://amigakit.amiga.store/pistorm32-lite-black-edition-amiga-1200-p-91309.html
It's missing pre-configured AmigaOS distribution with the bundle.
C= A1200 is not being mass-produced, hence the need for new standalone SKUs.
The majority of Raspberry Pi's sales are with business-to-business that embedded Pi SBCs with 3rd party addons or other value-added devices e.g. https://pallavaggarwal.in/10-products-using-raspberry-pi-compute-module/
I welcome SystemOS V54 recompiled for fast 68K Amiga platforms. Last edited by Hammer on 17-Aug-2023 at 04:40 AM. Last edited by Hammer on 17-Aug-2023 at 04:36 AM. Last edited by Hammer on 17-Aug-2023 at 04:30 AM.

Keyword being “games” - do these people qualify as “Amiga users”?
Would you call Chromebook, Android and Steam deck owners “Linux users”?

Steam Deck's SteamOS 3.x promotes Windows API usage via Valve's funded Proton, hence it's a Windows platform target. The kernel issue is hidden away from most users.

Where is this mentioned? |
First line on this thread.
But for the sake of argument - one alternative is that they have a custom FPGA board, like a minimal minimig/pistorm board, that plugs onto a raspberry pi. But then there’s nothing in the specs on wiki that indicates anything like that. (no support for legacy joysticks mentioned, nothing about cycle exact 68000, nothing about SDRAM, etc.)

Our A600GS+ board has dual Amiga DB9 ports for connecting a real Amiga joystick and mouse. Last edited by amigakit on 17-Aug-2023 at 12:41 PM.

| But why only on the “plus” model? And why even two models in the first place? Why 4GB RAM for an operating system that doesn’t even fully support 2GB? _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

To keep costs lower for end-user, the 2GB version will not have the Amiga DB9 but be at a lower price point to reflect this. The gamer will likely prefer this version as they will use the supplied USB joypad.
The 4GB version will be a little more in price and have the two Amiga DB9 ports and bundled with a mouse. We are aiming the 4GB version at the Amiga user that wants to use applications and our system software.

Pointless when AmigaOS cannot address more than 2GB in total - including all the address space that is reserved for various hardware. So, I ask again, why? _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

While dynamically allocated memory in the 68k AmigaOS can't be addressed above 2GiB, higher addressed memory could be used for specific purposes like the ram disk if the code was 4GiB aware. It may be possible to add a MEMF_4GiB or similar flag for memory allocations by newer 4GiB aware programs that would allow to use upper memory for limited purposes. Elbox successfully used the upper address space with the Mediator.
It looks like the A600GS uses ARM emulation meaning it is likely running an ARM OS and two OSs at the same time. If the ARM OS is a standard Linux install, it will use much more memory than the AmigaOS under emulation. If the ARM OS is 64 bit using AArch64 code then it likely uses at least 30% more memory than a 32 bit ARM OS and perhaps much more compared to an OS using Thumb2. A considerable amount of memory is also needed for emulation and JIT buffers. This is not a small footprint 68k Amiga anymore where even 2GiB of memory would seem huge for a 68k Amiga.

Wawawa… yeah, it “looks” like they are using an emulator, most likely on Linux. Not FPGA. That’s my point in this tiresome ridiculous long winded process of pulling legs…
Why not just be straight forward and up front about what this really is?

My speculation is System54 recompiled for 68K may have a similar feature with ~4GB RAM.
AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition has "extended memory" functionality.

Emulation is used for the games and the extra memory is utilised for our custom User Interface so users can navigate/launch games.
@Hammer
Only our V54 commands, system tools, BOOPSI Gadgets, Prefs and AK-Datatypes have been ported to V46.

Will you be bundling the 2GB Version with The Gamepad from RGL since that is the closest USB controller we have to an Amiga controller? _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

That’s not what you wrote earlier… Quote:

So which is it? I ask again - what’s the point of the 4GB?
(unless the host OS (Windows 10 surely) and the User Interface is so heavy that it runs away with most of the 2GB?)Last edited by kolla on 21-Aug-2023 at 05:43 PM.
