The new A1200NG has been revised with 12V power supply circuit and CDDA audio header with mixing circuit. Keir Fraser’s Greaseweazle technology is built in providing advanced floppy drive support. HDMI compatible video, WiFi Internet, 9-pin Joystick ports, Compact Flash card reader, serial DB25 and modern USB ports complement the design. www.a1200.com/ng

@amigakit

Will you be offering A1200NG kits that would include the wedge cases and keyboards and other required components for Amiga enthusiast to assemble themselves?

@amigakit

Nice, well done.

Please consider to sell a keyboard:
https://rastport.com/products/KA59/

and a fitting case:
https://www.retropassion.co.uk/product-category/commodore-amiga/amiga-a1200/amiga-1200-cases/

over your shop, maybe in a set ...

@amigakit

Looks nice, but there's no parallel port, so you can't use it w/ older printers and/or samplers/midi devices.

How expandable is this going to be ? Can I add other accelerators, like TF1260 or PiStorm ?

@Heimdall

I can't see an edge connector so don't see how any type of accelerator card could be added

@Heimdall

You might with a stretch of luck get another raspberry pi type of card, as long as t is supported, by the pins and hardware wise. For the looks of it the board looks like a big pistorm, accoupled to a ARM module ( in this case H618 Quad Core 1.5Ghz/4GB RAM). It must be compatible pin wise to it, and probably a bit of luck also.

If an adapter from usb to parallel port is used I guess, pretty much like in WinUAE, you would be able to access it. As long as it is supported from their emulation solution, that is, and how many users actually needs it still.

There was some talks about the DB25 serial port somewhere, the discussion was about whether it's really just RX(2)/TX(3), or if also the pins for CTS(4), DSR(5), CD(6) and DTR(20) are active? And +/-12 on pin 9 and 10? Perhaps you can clarify.

Those work with printers, but don't expect them to work with samplers and other amiga-specific devices - the amiga parallel ports is't identical to a PC parallel port.

There's midi devices that plug to parallel?

Wow, nice about the in-built CDDA mixer and Greaseweazle functionality! It's sad that there's no parallel port, though again the serial port inclusion is great. You win some and you lose some!

I guess 4-player functionality is possible with a mix of 2 x 9-pin and 2 x USB joysticks/pads like the A600GS?

Yes, but it's coming w/ a new version of octamed. So ppl might not only wanna play with some samples, that's a bit limited, but also w/ midi. Midi should have been in the Amiga from day 1 anyway, but he, who am i ?!

They take every oportunity.

Well Amigakit+Aeon are just another party fighting for the remains of the Amiga legacy.

I don't want to justify what is going on, I'm just glad that someone seems to take the Amiga at least a bit serious, giving it prope I/O Ethernet etc. when others just see it as another retro console with a printed keyboard.

Getting Worms DC into the hands of 100,000s of people isn't serious? It only sold 5,000 originally and now loads more people get to play it! I never played Qwak before and I wasn't really into emulation before! It helps get kids into chess with Battle Chess and actually points to what the Amiga was with its form factor! Mini consoles are a well known mega-niche of mainstream gaming. The A1200NG and A600GS are a sub-niche of the resurgent home computer market of an 80s/90s computer now dominated by PiStorm/MiSTer/Apollo machines! The A600GS/A1200NG seem like awesome products for people that want to dabble with Octamed in particular but beyond that the mainstream "serious" choice is the Mini/Maxi for many! The view that THEA500 Mini is just parked on most people's shelves because they can't be bothered to plug in a USB keyboard and boot a copy of AMiNIMiga or AGS Workbench is ridiculous!

@amigakit

Great work on this project. I think this is clearly a much better solution than what some people did, put A500 mini inside their A1200 / A500 cases.

Id even say this give Pi builds a run for the money too, I do think a faster Orange Pi might have been better or even maybe offered as an option, as I get these are not really Amiga features but things like Rabbit hole and playing Youtube vids on anything slower than a Pi4 was not great, so if you are going to offer these features I feel like the hardware might not be quite up to it, plus even faster emulation, storage speed etc are always nice to have.

Do you know if this board /software would work with a Orange Pi 5 or a Pi5 as an example. I mean I think the GPIO Pins have the same layout as far as Im aware of.

Some Pi5 modders might just want just the add on board. (i know that might not be what is planned but it would be a nice to offer feature)

Finally the big question is the Keyboard one. You can get A500 / A1200 cases pretty easily, but a keyboard is getting hard to come by, do you plan on selling one?

@amigang

We plan to offer “accelerator” options for the A1200NG this year. We are also working on additional porting Amibench components from 68K to native ARM. Next week A600GS owners will be able to download the AK-PNG ans AK-JPEG native ARM Datatypes. There is lots more to be ported over to native ARM code to speed up the system even further.

Keyboards are on our planning schedule.
