| Now I am in trouble again. It seems as I have managed to shut down my Amiga at the wrong moment. I must have damaged the kickstart files because when the AmigaOne boots up I get to the "Loading kickstart files for Image Default" progress bar. When the progress bar is finished I get the message " Loading done, now launching kickstart" but there it stucks. I can wait forever but it doesn´t get any further.
I have tried to start with the pre-release CD-Rom via the following commands:
ide reset setenv boot1 cdrom boota
But it reaches the same point and stops there. Can anyone help me on this? I would like to get my AmigaOne running again.

Do u have a null modem cable and a second computer..Connect A1 to another computer and look at the serial output ?
Can you try booting from CD after unplugging the HD ?

I don´t have a null modem cable but I am sure that the serial settings are OK. I haven´t changed them and they match the settings in the instructions.
When I unplug the HD U-boot can´t see the other devices either. I guess that´s cause of the jumpers but I am too tired to mess around with them. |

| Now I have checked the U-boot settings and it seems as I can´t save anything to the U-boot any more. Maybe it´s the U-boot that has taken damage? I guess I´ll have to try to reflash it in that case but with what? The U-boot images on the CD only upgrades from older versions, not from the current one.

I would try removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes, then replace it, That should clear out any configuration problems. power up again and then reset the UBoot settings and try again

If you haven't altered bootpriorities in the Media-toolbox, it should boot straight from the cd, if it is in the cd-rom while booting up. Mine does.
Sounds serious if you can't save the Uboot-settings. Do not try to reflash before someone with knowledge like Rogue or his brother has made a comment, since you are right about downgrading requiring a "downgrade-image", at least I got one for the December 1.0 Uboot, to be able to flash back to the September-version.

Well, I just discovered that it does save to U-boot but I can´t save the setting for secondary and tertiary boot devices. That could have something to do with my LS120 connected but it hasn´t had any effect on the startup earlier so I doubt it´s because of that.
@AmigaOneProductions
Maybe I´ll try to remove the battery, I have tried almost everything else...

No, it wasn´t that, at least we have ruled out the possibility of a malfunctioning U-boot. I took the battery out for about 5 minutes so the memory should have been purged. Then it has to be the Kickstart files on the HD that has become corrupted, but shouldn´t I get an error message in that case? It is from the Kickstart drawer on the boot partition that the booter reads it data, right?
I guess that I could install Debian Linux on the HD and erase the kickstart drawer from inside Linux, or in worst case format dh0:. I have heard that Linux can see AmigaOS-files but not the opposite so that ought to be possible. But can I repartition the harddrive without loosing data on existing partitions? That was a problem with Classic Amigas.
[edit] Isn´t there any possibility to start AmigaOS 4.0 in a safemode?[/edit] |

| This is more serious than I first thought. Now I have formatted the hard drive (I got desperate) and the OS4 CD still doesn´t load, it just stops when the progress bar does. That must mean that I have a hardware error, like the U-boot, or that a setting in the U-boot is wrong but I have double checked it, everything is as it should.
I hope I don´t have to send my computer to my dealer, that will be expensive... |

Sounds bad indeed
Can you boot the Debian A1-install cd? "diskboot 500000 x:0"
Because if that works, then I think it will be possible to fix it without the need to replace the flash-rom _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff! |

Yes I can boot with the Debian Install CD. I hope you have a good plan. I will check it out tomorrow, now I got to sleep. God night.

Run the: "printenv" command in Uboot, and check that it seems ok what comes to env-settings. If everything seems ok, check everything against the Os4 install guide, what comes to Uboot-settings.

| I also have a kind of problem booting AOS4. Yesterday I decided to add a CDRW-drive I wasn't using for anything else to my A1, so I bought a nice UDMA 66/100/133 cable, connected the CDRW (configured as master) on the secondary IDE-port and started the A1.
U-Boot told me the brand etc of the CDRW correctly (it's an Acer one), paused for a little while and told me I had no secondary slave, which I didn't. So far so good. OS4 loads the kickstart files and the monitor goes into standby as normal, but then nothing. I wait, and wait, and wait. Nothing.
So, I reset the computer, enter the U-Boot menu, disables the secondary IDE-port and OS4 boots just nicely again. Hmpf. Ok, I really should connect the A1 using a nullmodemcable to another computer, will do that tonight, but I just thought maybe someone had any suggestion anyway.
This is my IDE unit setup:
Primary master: 80GB Hitachi harddrive. Primary slave: Samsung DVD-ROM. Secondary master: Acer CD-RW. Secondary slave: none.
(BTW. The CDRW is connected to the very end of the IDE-cable, which I assume is the correct place for the master?) |

The one you plug it into doesn't matter unless you are using the drives "cable select" setting. Then it does matter. If you have the drive set to master with a jumper, you can plug it into either cable connector, unless the A1 is different than PC's in that respect, and I don't see why it would be.

Always plug your device into the end connector on the IDE cable, otherwise you can get signals 'echoing' back up the cable.

fwiw - I had some serious reboot time issues when I first started tinkering - it took anything up to and over 2 mins to re/boot. It turns out that my network port doesn't grip the cable connector properly and the cable (somehow) works itself loose. If you then try to activate a network interface with an improperly connected/missing cable, it seems to sit for ever doing nothing.
So, if you have a network interface defined in your startup, ensure that the cable is seated properly and if that fails, remove the AddNetInterface command from your startup.

With UDMA cables, it does matter. You have to use the correct connector with regard to whether your drive is set to master or slave. And don't use Cable Select at all, it is not (or likely not) working on the A1 (some would say "nor anywhere else" ).
Best regards,
Niels

make sure you have the autostart env variable set and the stdout env var (see install docs for guide on how to set these). I've had teh occasion where UBoot looses its env vars before now. Basically go through the install guide again for setting up the uboot settings.

| Dunno if this is important, but on my pc if I don't put the master device on the end of the ide cable and the slave in the middle, the computer cannot see the devices.
ide connector | | | Slave device | | | | Master Device
Does that make a difference?

I have checked the printenv but I can only see the last part of it, how do I get it to only show a page at a time? |
