Read it here
So it looks like the SnapGFX drivers are maturing more and more. Let's hope they make it soon into OS4

@mbilla

Looks good! Perhaps this is something that will become part of UBoot?

@Chunder

Doesn't Uboot allready have a similar BIOS emulator ? (Maybe it's the same ?)

It is indeed the same emulator.

Good work.... Since you have been involved with the PPC enabling of SciTeck does that indicate anything about how soon it's to be included into OS4 (Wishfull thinking on my part but I can't help myself )

Hehehe - now that's cool! I thought that it sounded familiar, but didn't twig that the two would be one-and-the-same just yet...

Great work Hyperion!

@mr2

Something else about the scitech page: look at the list of partners in the bottom right of the page at http://www.scitechsoft.com/. See a familar name there? Intriguing...

One thing is the BIOS emulator, another is the full SNAP package.
There was already an earlier version of the BIOS emulator in A1's uboot, integrated by the Friedens. Recently, this got updated by Scitech to their lastest version.
Porting SNAP to OS4 is a completely different matter. The announcement you saw is regarding Scitech that ported SNAP to Linux PowerPC; AFAIK there is still no publicy available BPD for PowerPC.

So what remains to be done is porting SNAP to OS4, as a P96 driver. This is NOT going to be easy, but efforts are underway.

I wonder where you get the notion that we are involved ? We are not. We just licensed SNAP.

Again, this is SciTech's work, not ours. We don't have _anything_ to do with that.

@All

You misunderstood me. The emulator that is in U-Boot is the Scitech emulator, conveived and written by SciTech themselves. The only thing we did was integrate it into U-Boot. In no way can I claim any sort of credit for it.

The SciTech emulator is also used in e.g. XFree86. It existed way before we started out U-Boot work. We intended to start our own emulator when we stumbled across the it, and decided it would be a waste of time if we wrote out own. We contacted SciTech and asked and they agreed that we could use it. We only did a few fixes to one or two emulated opcodes in the emulator.

Repeat, the emulator was written by SciTech and used by us in U-Boot, not the other way around

@Rogue & EntilZha

I'm sooooo embarrassed.
I was sure I had read somewhere that Hyperion were contracted to do the PPC port of the Scitech drivers.....
Me bad

Anyway... It is the sort of cleaver things you guys COULD have been involved with so I think it was a natural mistake on my part.

I apologise to anyone I may have led astray by my previous posting...

Darren

I think what is causing the confusion is that quite a while back, when we were first being treated to screenshots of linux booting up onto the AmigaOne hardware, the creators of uboot for the amiga were given credit for a clever bit of programming that emulated the x86 code so that pci cards could be initialized. That was well over a year ago, before the a1se was ever shipped.

On one Amiga.org news they talk about AtheneOS, and there's an article which talks about snap... and how speedy it is
