News   News : Anti-Grain Geometry fully supported on AmigaOS 4.0
posted by ssolie on 27-Oct-2004 4:35:49 (7979 reads)
From the Anti-Grain Geometry web site:

October 26, 2004 Update.

- AGG has been tested on AmigaOS. Many thanks to Steven Solie, http://www3.telus.net/public/ssolie When building on AmigaOS 4.0 or higher type the following for instructions on what targets are available. make -f Makefile.AmigaOS To just build and install AGG into the standard AmigaOS SDK ready for use type: make -f Makefile.AmigaOS install If you just want to build one demo (e.g. lion) use: make -f Makefile.AmigaOS bin/lion

- Added binaries for AmigaOS to the Demo page

I've packaged up the latest source code tree from the CVS and uploaded it to OS4Depot.

Developers can simply download the AGG SDK and type make -f Makefile.AmigaOS install to compile and install the 2D graphics library into the SDK ready to go.

Could this be used to implements bi/triliniar scaling of icons in AOS?

Something for AmiDock perhaps?

"stability, lightness, flexibility, and freedom"

Sounds "Amiga".

"your applications become absolutely portable, if..."

Not bad, not bad at all.

Hey I notice we're out-doing all other platforms (except win32) on the number of demos available

Hi,

It would be nice to see the packages on your download section too.
So that non-amigans will discover the "Amiga" name there...

Huh ! Really great software here !

Maxim Shemanarev and ssolie ROXXXX !

Great to see it ported as an OS4 library, even if not included in the OS4 SDK as default (perhaps as contrib ?), i think great product may be coded using this library !

hmmm... I'm seriously thinking about buying a µAOne and start coding... If only i was a real developer

Great news!

Only one question - The demos are listed as AmigaOS, not AmigaOS4 - somewhat misleading. Also, why are they .gz'd - is this format supported natively by OS4?

Yes. UnArc deals with it "out of the box".

@ssolie

Wow. Great. Just checked the screenshots. I'm impressed.
Now if s.o. will do a super image processing prog with all these functions included. I would be more than happy.

BTW is it possible to convert the Chemical Sketcher to AGG or this vector GFX prog all found on the screenshot page of AGG

AGG has been known in the REBOL community for some time. Recently it was decided to include AGG into REBOL/View instead of its current drawing engine.

Doing that is quite a feat because software that goes into REBOL has to have a very small source footprint and produce very small binaries which musn't increase the final REBOL executable with more than about 50 kb.

The next version should include AGG as its drawing engine, so we can play with it on a high level.

Good work ssolie!

Actually I was looking at this thing as my first AmigaOS4 port (when I get OS4), but now you've done the job for me! Thanks! Then I can move on and start to think about all the nice applications, it's possible to make with it.

I've tried AGG demos on a Windows box, and it really is something, this piece of software.

I first became aware of AGG from the REBOL world, and that is some kind of quality stamp by itself.

Thumbs up!!!
John.

And guess what........

It's all my fault
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Seriously, have been useing agg for months, just never bothered to port the demos, since
they are just that (demos)..... and looking them up on the Linux-box was good enough.

The actual agg-library is complete platform-independent, and all I ever need was a single
"make"

The demos are not just demos and they form a comprehensive test suite as Maxim has indicated. High quality software begins with a good test suite IMHO and I don't like using any ported software blind and hoping it works just because it runs on some unrelated platform.
