My understanding is babelfish only works with web sites, and not pdf files.

if you look at the two links provided, one is the article in pdf format, the other is a link to the magazines web site.

You can copy/paste the text from the pdf.
I've read this now and I can tell you that the article tells ppl out there what we amigans allready knew. So no surprise here.
But the tone is quite positive and it's a well written article. I like to see more of that.

As it is right now, for most people it will not be a real alternative. But to old amigans it could be a nice second system. Meanwhile it could evolve into a real alternative.

As Kicko says it will need Java, Flash to become really interesting for most people. Also some more productivity applications and some games wouldn't hurt.

...And available and affordable hardware for the masses

Google translation:

Conclusion
Hyperion-Entertainment has a small team of a hobby
nice product in the Amiga market put. AmigaOS 4.1 feels like a 'real'
Amiga in a modern but quite a lot faster. If you Amiga
in contact, you feel in a particular subculture ended
to have everything on its own logical way. Software get you
AmiNet.net and OS4Depot.net, the latest news from specific sites such as Amiga
AmigaScene.nl and Amigaworld.net. OS updates of AmiUpdate. You will
Amiga OS the typical slogans against as Workbench, Trashcan, Utilities & Tools
Prefs and Guru Meditation.
Can the AmigaOS a replacement for today's operating systems? At
certain points may well come, but it lacks the reliability and
is lack of modern software. For business-critical applications, the OS
(yet) appropriate.
With further development, an Intel / AMD port and good marketing it would be a serious
alternative could be for Windows, Linux or Mac
OS X. Given the pace of developments and
available budgets will not happen soon, sorry
because the OS has indeed something to offer.

Plus Points:
• Fast and flexible response by the powerful
pre-emptive multitasking.
• The standard integrated Ramdisk.
• A unique OS with a fun and unique sense of obligation.
• Opportunities for classical 68000 Emulation software
with Petunia.
• Many software ports of classic Amiga programs.
• JXFS 64-bit file system.
• System files such as libraries and devices have a very structured
mapindeling.

Negative points:
• Limited memory protection "and therefore not reliable.
• No serious commercial software developers in the market.
• Popular software like FireFox, OpenOffice, MS Office, PhotoShop, etc. is not
available.
• Limited hardware choice, the OS runs only on specific non-conventional
Amiga PowerPC hardware.
• There will be no more serious games like in the heyday of late 80's
early'90.
• No integrated Flash player in the delivered browsers.

Pretty strange to read "there is will be no more serious games". For sure if OS will growing up, expanded hardware archtexture games will be. Other question - want amigans it or not :)

Nice to see that in less than 2 years already 2 articles about our favourite OS has been written :)

Maybe, when an office suite is avaible (I mean native OS4) more people would be interested. Of course if the developpement of support for flash and java is done (and followed) I think that we all of us would be able to show the Amiga as a real alternative.

Now what would be nice is also adventure/RPG games and port of other games like Knight and Merchants (made for Morphos...)...

Nic

I think you'll find there has been a couple more than just 2 articles written in the mainstream computer press on the planet about AmigaOS in the last couple of years...

I have to agree. The software we need would be a good subject for a poll perhaps, I'd be interested to see what comes out as "most desired".

Nice.

There is one slight problem though, curious readers might go to AmigaScene.nl, where they will see almost no mention of Amiga OS 4.1. The Amiga OS 4.x software and hardware sections haven't had a single post since December 2008, and the other Amiga OS 4.x section hasn't seen any action in a month.

From a quick glance, it would be easy to think that it's a site for the Classic Amiga.

Hans

@Hans,

Well, given the fact that only since September 2008 we have had new hardware, I think it is not a bad feat at all to evenhave such wonderful articles to begin with.

Now in future, with future hardware and future development, I am sure Amiga OS may actually have a chance to get bigger.

Cheers.
