Internet News   Internet News : Hollywood is now on Wikipedia
   posted by softwarefailure on 23-May-2010 9:05:21 (6453 reads)
Hollywood now has its own entry at Wikipedia, the world's most popular encyclopedia. Here is the link so you can check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood (programming language). The article provides a good overview of what Hollywood can do, what platforms it supports, and a short history of the program. There is also a dedicated section about the popular Hollywood Designer add-on, which allows the easy creation of presentations and multimedia applications using a convenient GUI. Finally, I'd like to inform interested customers from overseas that the Euro is currently pretty weak in comparison to the US dollar, so for everyone who is thinking about purchasing Hollywood, now might be a good time to order.

I really hope they change their minds.

Tuxedo, don't say the article is an advertisement or Wikipedia admins will remove it...

Also, this page about deletion is *not* a place for doing advertising.

I nominated the article for AFD because it's non-notable and and advertisement for a product. And it clearly is an advertisement for a product, written by the entity responsible for the product as per this news article! I've been using wikipedia daily for YEARS and I don't want to see the place turn into the yellow pages. I raised the issue and the community will decide what happens next, please don't turn this into something personal.

@koft
I disagree at least.. I dont see anything in the wikipedia entry itself that reads anything remotely like advertising/spam. To me it just seems to be a nice informative entry...

You also say it is not notable?? There are plenty of so called less notable entries for sotware on wikipedia and hollywood is actually one of more interesting pieces of software for AOS. By your logic they should not cover any kind of software for any of the OSes with small userbase....

But it sure would help if there was a reference (link or not) to a review, even if an Amiga magazine.

This is about the quality of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a repository for evangelism, advertising, or other things that don't belong in an encyclopedia. This is an information source used by students and laymen the world over, lets not pollute it with our personal convictions.

Sure that's the reason. If you repeat it long enough you may soon believe it yourself. Just do not be surprised if no-one else does.

Does "notable" mean by the whole populace, or within the field it is aimed? If the former, then no, Hollywood is not notable, if the latter, then it certainly is - especially for its cross-platform abilities.

it is clear that a number of references need to be added: reviews from Total Amiga, Amiga Future etc. Also, the fact that both the Cubic and CodeBench IDEs have Hollywood plugins, would suggest that there is some notability in the wider Amiga world.
