After a long period of closed testing the DigiBooster 3 music tracker enters the public beta stage. The main goal of public betatesting is to check program core stability and performance on different operating systems and hardware configurations. Demo versions of DigiBooster 3 for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS are available for download on the official DigiBooster website. Please note that this is not a release candidate. Many important features still wait to be implemented. It is highly recommended to read a "readme" file after installation.


The key features of the new DigiBooster 3 are:

- Fully scalable MUI graphic interface with themes.
- New player engine, portable and AHI independent.
- Backwards compatible with DigiBoosterPro 2.x (the same module format).
- PowerPC native versions for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS.

Tested briefly. As i expect from Krashan: all works fine. I just for tests download some old polish diskmag called 7days (where are few DBMs of old type), and just load them all and play. All works fine. All those load song/ stop /play, etc.

Yeah, and both are mui :)
Should to say that Digi for now feels pretty stable on my peg2. Already plays 5-6 modules, pressing few buttons,etc. Seems all works for now.

Whoops, for some reason DigiBooster 3 has not loaded the levelmeter skin included to the default theme. I'm looking into the archive and see that the skin image is just missing and that is why the default ugly level meter is used. I will add the missing image file ASAP.

In the meantime the "levelmeter.png" from MorphOS default skin may be used, it is the same image.

Yeah , with level metter looks better. Trying to check few more dbms, for now all works. Few say something about "that row/sample not in blabalba" and assing it to 0, but still works.

Btw, by default in config Mixing Freq was only 8000, and Mix buffer lenght was obly 50ms. Not big deal of course, but i after i while start to think "why sound so bad", and found that in config have 8000 by default :) with 48000 its much better (maybe should be by default?)

These messages are harmless usually. DigiBoosterPro 2.x had a bit buggy saver not 100% conforming its own specifications , so it hapilly saved instruments with no samples assigned. For most cases these instruments are never played anyway, so using a default sample for them changes nothing. DigiBooster 3 loader is very strict in a sense it never loads an incomplete module and if some things are missing (for example because the file is cut or damaged) it tries to recover as much as possible, replacing missing module elements with some default values.

It is mentioned in the readme text below download links on the DigiBooster page. Of course I will set better defaults in the next version. About mixing buffer - do not increase it unless you have very slow machine. Longer mixing buffer degrades realtime player response on free play with keyboard. The buffer may be even set to 30 or 20 msecs on anything faster than Efika (Pegasos 2 has no problems with 20 ms running either AmigaOS 4 or MorphOS, the same PowerMac 500 MHz with MorphOS).

With enabled compostings and tons of apps runnin at one time: 50 are the best as i can see (with 20-30, when i start to move some heavy app , and compositing enables, then sound start to work jerky, but with 50 all is fine).

Yes, DigiBooster is a graphics intensive application due to pattern scrolling, and gives especially huge load for 3D accelerated desktops (on both AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS). It may be worth considering to switch DigiBooster to a separate screen (using MUI screen manager).

Also what found for now (dunno maybe its just my settings suck a bit for now), but Digi block heavy AHI , and no other AHI apps can works at this time. For example now i have running tunenet with mp3 at backgorund (with which i can run tons of other music-apps/games/etc), but when i try to run digi, i have:

It is also mentioned in the readme below the download links. DigiBooster uses exclusive (so called low-level) AHI access for best audio quality and responsiveness. If you really need audio to be shared with other applications, set "Unit0: HiFi 16-bit stereo++" mode in DigiBooster configuration. Note however that audio dynamic is degraded by one or two bits (3 or 6 dB) then.

Ok I leeched those Demo and don'T know if I had a A-Future Forum Account in the past, to long ago so I write a little bit here. Perhabs that coder reads it in some way or another.

First I have to say I do not like MUI but when some nice GFX Artist can take a look at it and overwork the layout here and there I can live with that as long as it stays as fast as it is now. The speed is surprising fast here on my little SAM440, I loaded a 40mb DBM I made some years ago into the Demo and it was ready to play under one second, nice and fast. The MUI GUI seems to be smooth and timing correct, ok it looks like MUI but better than nothing ;)
Playback is ok so far, I would say not better than Milkytracker would handle DBM Mods more like it would be an XM mod, but fast and without much latency.
Sometimes there is some kind of crackle sound, perhabs I mixed to much 8bit and 16bit samples in the past. Where I know there are only 16bit samples inside it sounds clean so far.
Yes I allso tested the tracker with up to 192khz playback, CPU Load seems to be under 15% with over 32channel DBM Mods which is nice so far. The Axx volume slide Command is broken, when I slide down with A11 for example it slides down to fast, A01 slide up is ok.
Another AHI related desease, the Volume is to quite, when I pushed up the Volume booster up to +26db I do not even reach the -6db bugged AHI OS Volume level, my Digital Converter shows -15db. Normal would be 0db ;)
I know Hyperion does not care about Sound quality so AHI V6 will stay bugged as it is but please try to implement some Kind of automatic volume boost like AmigaAMP or Tunenet does so the dynamic is correct again.
Wake me up when it can be used then I would buy it ;)

Did you change in the preferences, 8000mhz freq to 48000mhz frew, (its about volume is to quite) ?

I'm not new in Amiga sound things ;)
Yes I looked first inside the config. My Digital Setup only allows me to to use frequencies with 32khz, 44.1khz, 48khz, 88.2khz, 96khz and 192khz course I stream my music back outside the soundcard to my digital master processor so I can watch what is going on. The volume is the same on all frequencies which is a normal behavior, but to quiet to be useable. I cannot blame digibooster for that, the AHI mixing routine inside the OS is bad and does not run on normal dynamic levels like it should but it is an knows problem and there is no real safe sollution, only workarrounds as far as I know, so audioplayers boosting the volume to reach 0db peak limit. Normaly the peak limit is -6db with OS routines, I call that consumer level. Does not sound much but makes a big difference when you want to make serious mixing and sampling.
But do not want to go to big in detail course I'm no coder and cannot say for sure how AHI works inside, but to 68k times anything was better a little bit, allso slower ;)
