Would this deal extend to those who are waiting to purchase the MicroA1?

It has been stated from day 1 that Amiga OS 4.0 would be an OEM version for the AmigaOne.

This is a return to the Commodore days where you paid a single price for a product consisting of the hardware and the OS.

Since the full release is not finished yet, new purchasers will already be able to obtain the Developer Pre-release which they can subsequently trade in for the full version, free of additional charge (excluding shipping and handling) through the dealers.

Hmmm, I always though the model was going to be Apple/Microsoft (first copy of the OS is 'free', upgrades you pay for). I don't think Commodore ever really did "big" OS upgrades (ie you could get 2.1 free from your dealer if you had 2.04, but not 3.0), you were expected to upgrade the entire computer instead; I don't think that will work really well nowadays though. What happens when 4.1 comes out, will that be a free download (provided to can provide a serial #), or...?

OBTW: are the CDs ready for mailing yet? I have a certain PPC linux computer sitting next to me that's ready for a personality transplant

This does make some sense to me, if you sell the hardware with the OS bundled, you effectively destroy piracy, as there is no point to it, every board sold already has the OS, so why would you need to pirate it ?

Of course this idea fails when it comes to later paid for upgrades of the OS, you are no longer forced to purchase, you COULD then steal a copy by piracy (you would be a complete and utter BarSteward for doing so)

It's in hardware betatest, and available now if you're prepared to put in the hard work

Actually, the way things are going I reckon it'll be ready for full distribution fairly soon, certainly before the Autumn .

If what you say is true, that it has been planned all along that all A1 purchasers would get AOS4 included a part of the deal, then what was the "earlybird"?! Nothing?

How so?

The earlybird offer was about getting OS4 for free, now it comes bundled with the hardware and thus the price should get bumped by an amouunt that represents the cost of OS4.

But of course individual dealers might choose to lower there margins on A1's since I suspect that they will require less maintainance cost now that they'll ship with OS4.

No, it hasn't.


They just won't ship them to that part of the world.

Mainly to limit the SPAM traffic within the Amiga community as the Bode's would then have an A1 each..

Also, with the newly exposed vulnerability within the core structure of the net, the Australian IT minister fears that Ozzland just couldn't muster the required bandwidth, and might get disconnected from the net altogether as a safety measure.
