| I'm stuck at work so I have to use a PC and I have a proxy server. Does anyone know what I need to do to get logged on to the IRC. |

| Well, Looks like I will not be able to get on. Seems like at work chat sessions are not allowed.
I just had a few questions I wanted to ask, so if anyone could forward them I would appreciate it:
First question is would they hold off on releasing OS4 final until hardware is ready for it?
Second question is what features are not making it into the final release do they wish were?
What features come after the final release?
Who is calling the shots on what goes in or does not go into a release?
Is any form of security or multiuser functions being looked at? Seems as though the longer the wait to implement these the more difficult it would become. Does security really need to break legasy software to be implemented? Is there a better way to do security than what is done on other platforms? |

| Yeah I am stuck in Ottawa using Foxfire on my sister's PC. I don't seem to be able to install the plugins. I have been at it for ten minutes, no joy. The wrong URI. I don't have a clue what that means. John Paul |

| Fast work re. the IRC logs, guys - I just logged in to ask for a copy, and lo!
@Hyperion Thanks for answering the questions - sounded like some interesting stuff to look forward to!
@AW.net staff/mods Well organised session - the question channel is a good idea, as it really helps to maintain the focus in the main channel... nice one! _________________

| Hi all!
A question that I cannot get out of my head is:
When the Friedens say that a port to the PegII will cost an initial amount of money and that it could be done with that money, how about asking the guy who offered a lot of money to AInc in order to get the PegII-licence for AOS4 to offet this money to Hyperion for a PegII port?
The userbase would increase immediatelly! The disadvantage would be a third kind of BIOS to support!
What do you think? Can anyone remember who that guy was? |

| @Reth,
That would be Acill, AFAIK no longer a member on AW. You might try morphzone tho I don't think Acill is interested at this point. _________________ ~ Everything you say will be misquoted and used against you.. ~

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately no luck on morphzone too (the search functionality there is less than limited!).
Does anybody know how to get in contact with ACILL? |

| Just PM him on a.org. Tho I haven't had much contact with Acill I do believe he will respond to that. Might be he won't answer before 2006 tho. _________________ ~ Everything you say will be misquoted and used against you.. ~

| Seems kind of ironic. Formerly there was hardware without an Amiga OS, now it seems we have an Amiga OS without hardware.
Hope they come together mighty quick! _________________ Time to give up now I think

I think you should brush up on your reading skills.
The brothers Frieden said:Quote:
There is an initial "cost" involved for a port, in fact, for any port of OS 4 to a different hardware platform. |
So here there is no difference if it's a Peg or anything else!
They go on to say:Quote:
On some occasions (like the hardware platforms mentioned in our introduction) we'Re working on that with the hardware manufacturer. | whichi is NOT the case with the Pegasos.
Finally they mention:Quote:
For the Pegasos 2, we would need to do that ourselves. We're currently not ready to do that. That is the reason why there is no OS4 on the peg yet. |
Note the "We're currently not ready to do that" part which should suggest that they are maybe not ready to do that.
I doubt it's a cost question at this point considering at least 2(?) new hardware platforms that have to be ported to and bug tested, as well as getting the final release out the door and maybe the PPC versions for A4000 and even the 1200 as well. There could even be new A1s in the works and I haven't mentioned the PDA with OS4 running on it.
I would guess it's more a question of resources than anything else. Now if you would pay a years salary for a couple of extra programmers AND the cost to port the thing you could get some VIP treatment.
