| "he Sam440ep-flex board features the same technical specifications as the Sam440ep.."
I don't see the radeon GFX chip on this board? maybe it's on the opposite but i can't see the previous dvi connector the original SAM had.
EDIT: maybe having removed the gfx chip allows for a cheaper board now,we'll see once the prices are announced. Last edited by Ami603 on 27-May-2008 at 12:47 PM.

Shame the mini can't (legally) run OS4.0 yet, or I would get one.

| It probably will cost less than original SAM and you'll can use a normal gfx card (with all video output you want) |

| For some time, I have been considering replacing my A1GXE 800 mhz system with one of the new offerings (that is one of the new "promised" offerings from Acube or ACK). One of the biggest complaints I and others have had is the price to mhz ratio. I am not exactly willing to give up 800 mhz for 667 mhz. With that being said, SATA, DDR (which may be accessed faster than memory on my 800mhz system), Lattice FPGA (with which one may have classic chipset hardware emulation), USB 2.0, and other built in features are great. Maybe I'll get one when they come out with a "460" processor version of the motherboard.

| Very nice Board Acube. Should fit now in mostly any ATX Case without the problems of not fitting backplates. Still hope someday I can get a cool backplate for my Sam440EP board too. Course without OS4 it only takes dust from not beeing used ;))) I wished the existing Operating Systems on the SAM which are allready running more or less would have cool music apps so I can start making music again.. but now only waiting for OS4 for the true Amiga sound again... some sign that something in that direction is done would be nice. Course you want to deliver something for the Amiga Community at first, and we want the hardware running OS4. You have the cool Hardware we like... but no real OS... You got the power and motivation to make some pressure for the community to the right ppl, do it! |

| Another nice motherboard for which AmigaInc tries to block OS4 delivery.
For those of you wanting a higher CPU clock, remember...
1) This is primarily designed for embedded systems. That means low power, low heat, passive cooling, few moving parts, low maintenance, etc.
2) The CPU is PPC. It is not a Vista victim and doesn't need Intel's Gazillion gigahertz to accomplish tasks.
3) OS4 and AmigaOne already run fast. This motherboard will not render a 200 Mhz performance reduction versus an AmigaOne because of the faster bus speeds on the SAM. It's also at a lower purchase price.
4) As long as AmigaInc blocks OS4, it either reduces or eliminates the incentive to create an upgradeable CPU module oriented more towards traditional desktop or server usage.
Makes me sad though because my interest with the motherboard is to see it with OS4. :( Last edited by logicalheart on 28-May-2008 at 03:57 AM.

great. Why put PCI slots to that thing then. When a proper desktop motherboard will be released?

Yeah, I guess blender magically will run faster than Core2Duo cpus because it will say "oh! it's a PPC, let's use the secret ultrafast Altivec version of the functions... but... oh wait! no Altivec here!)

Do you understand what "no L2 cache means"? Go to the BIOS of your PC, disable L2 cache and run whatever optimized OS and repeat me than it doesn't matter.

I don't want to upgrade the cpu. I want a *fast cpu* soldered in the motherboard. When I buy a new PC the old motherboard goes to the trashcan together with the cpu and ram.
I don't want a server, I'm the single user of my computers.
There are >1Ghz SOC-like chips that have Altivec and L2 cache. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ

| Some positive points: DDR DIMM 100 slot, max 512 MB (or in alternative 512 MB DDR soldered onboard). USB 2.0 OHCI/EHCI NXP PCI controller.
Some negative points: no PCI-Express or AGP. Only 677 Mhz (Not an upgrade path for AmigaOne users)
Conclusion if OS4 gets ported to it then:
* This will be nice a nice replacement for classic AmigaOS4 users that only have 166mhz to 233mhz range CPU’s, whit out DMA, as bonus they get USB2.0 and DDR2 what a nice upgrade.
* I think some MicroAOne users might be tempted to get more PCI slots.
* Nice replacement for not so fast AmigaONE-SE you know one whit all unfixable bugs.
But for me whit an AmigaOne-XE that has IRQ signals rewired and USB pull down resistors mounted, I already have lots of PCI slots and even a AGP2 slot, and a fast 1 Ghz G4 whit Altivec, it looks more like downgrade then a upgrade for me at least. _________________ http://lifeofliveforit.blogspot.no/ Facebook::LiveForIt Software for AmigaOS

| @Crumb I guess that logicalheart was trying to say what that Visa was slow OS, which makes the computer less unable despite it having a faster CPU.
And I agree whit logicalheart that Mhz / Ghz printed on CPU is not that important , what I think is important thing is what you can use this computer for:
* Sam440 will have no problem playing movies. * it will have no problems playing mp3 / ogg and other common audio format. * it will be fast at booting and general disk activity. * it will have fast transferee speed over USB2. _________________ http://lifeofliveforit.blogspot.no/ Facebook::LiveForIt Software for AmigaOS

Well, if there really are thousands of people who want to buy any hardware at all for OS4, then this would of course be an option (it's some hardware, after all). I don't think the first and foremost idea is to sell to those who already bought something else
Anyway, we all know Amiga Inc is going to bury OS4 forever, so why are we discussing theoretical OS4 hardware? _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). | Congratulations to ACube Systems for announcing yet another hardware solution.
Unfortunately, I am not interested in running a PPC Linux system.
