| I see that everyone is cheerfull about the announced release of the new (?) OS but i keep asking my self: "How many people are going to get their hands on it?". I mean if it's really planned for the A1 only then chances are that the lucky ones will be only a few. On the other hand, the same happened with OS 4.0 but at least in the end of the day we got an edition for classic Amigas. I hope that all this game behind the new Amiga OS will lead to a release for other potential systems, and i think this is the only viable way as A Inc don't seem to have in mind to release any new hardware _________________ Vanilla A500 NOS A1200 (Powered by V1200, CoffinOS r.58) PowerMac beast, MorphOS 3.15 (registered)

That's just evil. Alan did it all in good faith.
MAI were the crooks. They sold him a solution that didn't really work. He's no hardware engineer, so he bought their shiny marketing speech and got stuck with hardware he couldn't sell, angry customers, etc He made no money worth speaking of from the whole venture.
Then MAI went under.
So would you rather have had NO AmigaOne EVER or the one we had? Think carefully before you answer that. Ideal world, he would have gotten a working northbridge. Real world, he had a choice between a polished turd and nothing. Not being able to spot the underlying turdiness behind the polish, it's pretty easy to see why he went for it.
Remember that the road from hero to villain is very short in a market of fanatics _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Well, maybe Alan wishes that was true, that he never bothered with it.. _________________ ~ Everything you say will be misquoted and used against you.. ~

Ok, now we want to know about Os 4.1 will be free for holders of A1..... |
Including 4.1 and onwards, Hyperion has to pay Amiga Inc, a royalty, so I would expect this to be a paid for upgrade.
About time Hyperion was able to recoup some of their investment, anyway. So I can't wait to pay. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

| Looking forward to see the results.
Alan played a crucial role to push AmigaOS4 forward to where it is today.
I just hope this will hit the PS3 and/or Cell blade computers someday. |

Alan Redhouse is a fly-by-night who took money from the community and left us in a mess!
By the way, will 4.1 be demoed on obsolete AmigaOne hardware or brand new Sam440 hardware? |
To my knowledge, Eyetech did not take pre-orders/funds from end consumers without ever shipping the product to them. The company also could not be classed as "fly-by night" as they had a strong presence in the Amiga world for many years before taking on the AmigaOne project.
The mess we are faced with cannot solely be attributed to Eyetech simply because the final AmigaOne system (which if you look back is a very different beast to that originally announced in 2001) has flaws which were not obvious to them at the time the orders for the boards were placed.
While the end product is not without its issues, at least a product was brought to market. Sure it wasn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, and yes cheaper and better hardware was available back then, but in all fairness, there is another company who were supposedly in charge of the whole Venture, and they do not appear to have had much input in the say of how it all went. Ultimately, it was their responsibility to ensure the final product would meet end users needs before it got to market. _________________ Test sig (new)

| I especially love the round corners of the windows. A much-needed thing, as well as so many other things! This proves that Amiga is far from dead, and it seems that Hyperion is clearly pointing out how important the AmigaOS 4.x-line is! _________________ Helge K. Leaving the Amiga in favour of a PC..

| I just got back to my computer, according to timeanddate.com it's almost 9 in the evening in italy and there's nary a peep on the demo here, on amiga.org or amigans. I guess either there was nothing interesting to report, or the news were bad and no-one's wanting to be the first one to post them |
