You can read this a number of ways: - OS4 is coming for this board - their costs have come down - they are sitting on too many boards - they are clearing out stock for the next generation

-ACube note the Hyerion announcement and subsequently annouce a reduction in price on the SAM in the hope that some people will link the two in their minds and buy a board to which OS4 may never see.... |

| This is a good news for that people that want hardware for Amiga to a price normal, I prefer the Sam440ep-flex a good economic alternative and to can buy the graphcis card or hard disk that we like. |

Good news for Amiga hardware? Errr, where do you see an Amiga here (I mean capabale of running an AmigaOS like. AROS is only compatible with itself)? _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz

| No dancing banana from me until it runs Amiga OS 4.0 or higher.
Well at least it runs Linux which is something.
Why in the world aros is wasting its time on non-x86 hardware is beyond comprehension and I'm not going to get messed up with that insanity. We've got enough problems trying to get OFF of specialized hardware. ROFL! _________________ ExecSG Team Lead

| Unless a few of us buy the thing and work on it, it'll never get to run OS4. If a few savvy devs get one each, it will be only a matter of time before we can run it. Wait "until it can run OS4" and you'll miss out the same way you did with the XEs. _________________ cheers tony

| Yo, nice Price. I hope Acube will not stop support for the SAM440EP boards when the Flex version is out. I never used my board much, no OS beside AROS and no OS4 out yet. When the situation is clear I hope OS4 will come for the old SAM board and not only the Flex. One year taking dust on the board is enough. But nice to see that RAM`s are aviable, will order one for sure, course I searched for a long while and did not find any. 33 Euro is ok. About dust, some news about the backplates? :=) Hm.. IF not I cut one myself at work ;=) Ah yes.. the latest UBoot for it is allso buggy, after a softreset the mouse and keyboard over USB does not work anymore, power off is the only way to get it running again. So Acube, there is still work left to be done :o) |

Well, if all Amiga users, we put very heavy and ask to Hyperion, Amiga Inc. and A-Cube, and they see the interesting of the community, maybe we gat the miracle, the OS 4.x or why not MorphOS 2.0, will run on the Sam, but as always the people we have give war in forums, etc. Last edited by Templario on 26-Jul-2008 at 04:28 PM.

| I think this is not a technical matter but a legal one. I don't think anything can be done with OS4 (on new hardware) until the legal situation is clear....personal opinion here..I have no inside info.
I would not advise anyone to buy the board with the "hope" that it will someday run OS4....even though I would love to be able to.
If you want to buy it as a linux machine and also AROS, and have no further expectations, then by all means go ahead and buy it. Last edited by HammerD on 26-Jul-2008 at 04:55 PM.

I am a user, not a developer. Back in the day, I chose to support AmigaOS4. I paid the full advertized retail price for a MicroA1 motherboard bundled with AmigaOS4 CD, and had it shipped across Canada. Since that time, I have been a supporter of AmigaOS4.
Even though I also congratulate the others on their efforts, it is AmigaOS4 that interests me.
ACube Systems has also supported us where they can. I applaud them for their efforts.
If the SAM440 ran OS4, I would purchase it in a heartbeat.
Even if it ran the PPC version of QNX, I would consider it because I already have QNX running as a an alternate system on my HP pc. However, at this time, I have absolutely no interest in running "yet another operating system".
At home here, we have a laptop and two pcs running WindowsXP, my MicroA1 running OS4, and a semi-retired Amiga 2000HD running AmigaOS 3.1.
--- rant mode on ---
Why does news about SAM440 always show up in AmigaOne News?
Either it is or it isn't.
If doesn't run OS4, it is just yet another PPC motherboard.

Re: Incorrect category
You can blame me for that one. It *should* have gone into Hardware News, which is where I have now placed it. I had a blonde moment when I approved it, did not check the category and take full responsibility. Sorry.

Thanks. (/me takes a sideways glace at the moo ... )

I just want to make it clear that I hold ACube Systems in high regard.
IMHO, they are already doing what they can to help our community in the midst of this licensing fiasco.

I think the intent always was for the board to run OS4. Perhaps the design of this board started before legal troubles...or ACube started it anyway and assumed, at the time, that it would not be difficult to get a license.
In either case, I feel for them. ACube does seem like a great company for our small market.
The court case is a very difficult situation and let us all hope it gets resolved sooner rather than later. I would really hate to have this thing drag out MORE than 2 years....3,4 years of this would really suck. We are already at nearly 1.5 years and counting. | You know... and I already have said the earlier placement of this thread was an honest mistake/overlook... the fact that SO MANY posters have said they would JUMP on this h/w 'if it only ran AOS4.x' **should** be sending a strong message to ''whomever'' is responsible for making that Amiga OS available.
Is anyone listening? Hello? Yooohooo! Here's a Golden Retail Niche Market Opportunity! _________________ ¤¤ Official Hyperion Zealot ¤¤
