Hardware News   Hardware News : Minimig Enclosure Black Edition Released
   posted by TheDaddy on 27-Sep-2008 21:22:06 (7954 reads)
Hi everyone,

I am happy to announce the release of the new enclosure for the Minimig; the Black Edition. I have produced the Black Edition one because many people have wished, through the years, they had a black Amiga.
(Read more)

Photos and Video

For just the video
(put the volume up and enjoy, a bit self indulging but it was nice to add some of your comments)

I have already started taking orders, some of you, like Rob, should have it already.
Email me if you are interested: amigarulez@hotmail.com

Thank you to all the people who have bought it and already given it funny names like:
Minimig Ninja or Minimig Darth Vader

(It looks cool and menacing at the same time)

Going back to working on the Natami/SAM case now...

Thank you.

>>Luke (niceguy1979)

Hello,

>>I think they look great. And with any luck you should be able to buy them at the MAG UK event as TheDaddy has showed interest in exhibiting. Considering he only lives a few miles away too, it will be great to have a range of things happening.

I'll do my best. Is it the 1st of November? If so I might have to see if I can have a new batch in time for the event...about 10 Black Minimig enclosures left...

White ones ARE SOLD OUT.

>>I think that they look great. I think the system is great too and with all the modern additions to the system (compared to the original A500) it's worth the cost. It seems like a great way to bring back good old fashioned multiplayer gaming, Bring it on!

I love The Chaos Engine for example, Lotus TC2, and SWOS against my brother...MUWAHAHA!
(Calm down now...)

>>Well done. They do look gorgeous. Definitely prefer the Dark edition.

Thanks The_Editor...we have 50% of the buyers preferring the White and 50% the Black, which puts me in a difficult position. LOL!

>>Have you posted these enclosures up on mini-itx ?

Never thought about that...

@1Mouse

>>Apart from games are there any applications that can work on the Minimig?

I was told Octamed works and I have got Darrin (from amiga.org) on the case (no pun intended), he is going to test other apps like Deluxe Paint and so on...he should let me know.

>>I like the compact nature of the Minimig but would like to purchase the complete package (Minimig in case).

Talking to several online Amiga retailers including Amigakit about that...

>>Just like to wish you good luck for any future projects.

Thank you, I will try and put SAM/Natami wedge/desktop/tower case into reality but it takes time and money, also I still haven't got a SAM board, talking of which are there two different sizes of SAMs?

@TheDaddy

The two enclosures you have made look very nice. I have just noticed one small thing though that may be nice to add to any future cases you consider designing (or revisions of these minimig enclosures), and that would b having the port holes etched with what they are (Keyboard, Mouse, VGA, Joystick etc).

Ooops, missed that, but then again it was kind-of hidden between rather less important stuff. And definitely no price mentioned in the news item...

What would you like to see in a A500 case? The Minimig board? And why would you want to do that?

first of all this is a clone of the a500, the second it would be nice to have something that looks and feels like an amiga, thats why..... and alot of people have a dead a500 laying around, the case is still usable and would be a nice project, to fit the minimig inside.

Steve you should work with me!

That was the original plan, then after a few emails with the people who pre-paid (pre-ordered) it came out that the majority preferred the clean look, I don't mind, I like them both.

I might still do it (it will all depend on paying for the extra tooling and charges necessary to do this).

Oh by the way would you like SD CARD or Memory Card under the...erm...memory card port? Some say the term SD Card is copyrighted.

>>first of all this is a clone of the a500, the second it would be nice to have something that looks and feels like an amiga

That is debatable. Define something that feels and looks like an Amiga. Does it have to look like an A500 (wedge shaped with ventilation slots) to feel like one? If Commodore were still around they might have designed something like this. Would you still think that it doesn't look or feel like an Amiga? Does it have to have the Amiga name on it to feel and look like one?

Does the original Mac look anything like the mac mini? Time and design evolve. If I wanted to go retro style I would have done what VW did with the Beetle but, designing for design sake is not for me.

>>and alot of people have a dead a500 laying around, the case is still usable and would be a nice project, to fit the minimig inside.

That is a different story and perfectly doable but I can't see the point.

@Templario

I did receive a few emails about the Efika but not enough to try something for it, people seem to like the Minimig and others wish they had something similar for the SAM/Natami...but I am not excluding the Efika

LOL!

Thanks...it is such a shame, if Amiga Inc. supported us better they would actually sell quite a few. I could try and email them but I am not very optimistic about it...

I have a friend who's pretty good at painting metal soldiers, and is on his way to Spain sometime next week to stay at his parent's place over there.

How many left? Did I make the last cut? I hope I can get your case in this round of production, because I'm sick of my classic game machines breaking down.

The biggest downfall of this whole thing is that it is an Amiga 500 remake!

That is the point of the whole thing. An A500 in a very portable case with a flash reader so you can get hundreds of games on it that is simple to use.

It's not meant to be a next gen Amiga but - as you say - a toy for those of us that want to play a huge back catalogue of software on a (now at least) very good looking device.
