Internet News   Internet News : Hollywood is now on Wikipedia
   posted by softwarefailure on 23-May-2010 9:05:21 (6452 reads)
Hollywood now has its own entry at Wikipedia, the world's most popular encyclopedia. Here is the link so you can check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood (programming language). The article provides a good overview of what Hollywood can do, what platforms it supports, and a short history of the program. There is also a dedicated section about the popular Hollywood Designer add-on, which allows the easy creation of presentations and multimedia applications using a convenient GUI. Finally, I'd like to inform interested customers from overseas that the Euro is currently pretty weak in comparison to the US dollar, so for everyone who is thinking about purchasing Hollywood, now might be a good time to order.

@itix

Well,
I think that too...
If a programmer use it it have only to say that he use that... what else?
Maybe a list of links to hollywood related projects like Dental Kanal for example?

It is not enough someone uses it. It must have stablished notability which is always difficult because Amiga doesnt get reviewed nor mentioned in mainstream media.

Yeah, I'd read that, but it didn't really give much of an indication to the scale required.

However, the wikipedia article on notability (nice bit of self-referencing there) does at least give an example on how much "notability" is required.

Hello Koft

I find your postings both here and on the Wiki-thread rather strange - I understand that you personally have failed to take much notice(or interest) of Hollywood / Hollywood Designer - but I fail to see how your knowledge about Hollywood should be used to decide wether or not the article should be deleted. Have you even tried Hollywood ? Or are you a coder at all ? I have however read several posts from you on amigaworId that makes me wonder if you have a hidden agenda with all this...

Anyway, let me inform you that my own company Ferrule Media has used Hollywood / Designer for several years allready - producing commercial software within dentistry and the medical world. The software Dental Kanal (Dental Channel) and Dental Info is used in alot of offices, but also in several schools as part of the education of new students. So Hollywood-produced software is actually quide wide-spread in Norway.

We produce everything with Hollywood - ranging from install-programs, update-programs, Info-channels and our most successful program Dental Info - an interactive information-tool about dentistry.

Both our Norwegian and Danish division uses Hollywood - and only one of our developers had prior knowledge about Amiga - we choose to use Hollywood because we read positive information about Hollywood as a coding-language - from amiga-sites and heard from the experience of coders we know from other firms.

Best regards
Torgeir Vee
Ferrule Media

Some references have been added now to prove Hollywood's notability. There are a lot of other articles about Hollywood that could be quoted, but I think it's enough for a start to prove that Hollywood is not "a specific product that's virtually unknown" as koft described it. Maybe it's unknown to him, but I have at least 50 articles from reliable sources about Hollywood here. I can email koft a bibliography in case he wants to widen his horizon. Still, it's quite sad to see that this deletion report actually came from a user *here* at amigaworld. That's somewhat depressing, having to defend Hollywood's notability on an Amiga site :(

@softwarefailure
I actually suspected it could be only be a request from 3-4 of the members on this forum and Koft was one of them.
It is not surprise if you look at his previous posts here. All you see is constant negativity from him about anything that is Amiga related. I personally think he is in one of those that are still stuck in one of those alternative "camps"...

Hollywood is one of the most interesting and useful programs to come out of the Amiga experience - and I've hardly started to use it! But I have seen the potential for a long time.

To claim that the wiki entry is simply an advertisement is really narrow minded

Maybe you can add that too...

Happy now? Maybe you could retract your vote for deletion now that there is references and citations.
