| I haven't seen anyone state the the obvious, but "I told you so."
However two things seem to be out of place: Quote:
In comparison to what? What is it competing with? Everything we've heard about the X1000 says the opoosite.

Not again! The A1 Mk2 isn't being underclocked again!? We need these things to go faster, not slower, and at least the speed they are meant to be at.Last edited by Hypex on 26-Dec-2010 at 10:31 AM.

| Nice to have a military spec CPU; now all the X1000 needs is EMP shielding! _________________ A1200+Mediator+Voodoo3+040+130mbRAM+0S3.9 A2000+Supra28mhz+9mbRAM+OS3.2.2, CD32 & WinUAE

You have to start somewhere. This was the dual core cpu that was available. Once OS 4 works on a dual core cpu machine then you can adapt it to other multilcore designs.
You also need to have enough boards in the hands of developers, betatesters and users so development continues and any software issues are fixed. The big benefits will be reaped in the next generation designs as by then the software base should grow and take advantage of OS4.x in a muticore cpu setting.

Begging your pardon, but why would we want to start on a chip that has a limited production life? Unless we can secure 3-4 years of supplies of the chip....or if newer chips being designed can run programs designed for PA6T...then I am prone to wonder. My measly 2 cents...otherwise, I like the idea...... |

| Great news, can't wait to get mine but I think we're all going to have to keep a wary eye out for the return of Doomy who will want to get his hands on a REAL military spec amiga Last edited by Severin on 24-Dec-2010 at 01:09 PM.

| Nice, now reading with "thinking" at the same time. Here have been Dual Core for many years but not in an Amiga for sure. OS4 will fly and maybe the PPC, Pat or what it is will be much better and faster than the Intel or AMD.
I Hope the Hyperion Team won't still forget about us AmigaOneXE - and other Guys. We supported OS4-4.1 and hope to be compatible along;)
Thank You. |

So does this mean that once those cpus are installed in the X1000, there will be NO more X1000s ? If the plant is closed, where will the next batch come from ? |
I had the same question so I asked them - the official answer I received from A-Eon is:
'Fear not, check out the new multi-core CPUs being developed by Freescale, in particular the 64-bit dual core, 2.2 GHz P5020 and the 8-core, 1.5GHz P4080.'
So no worries. _________________ Sam
