| Hmmm, that should be around £750 (inc VAT but excl shipping), which compares very favourably to £950 for AmigaKit's slightly higher spec Sam460 (which can have same gfx card, but has more RAM & bigger HD, plus of course a faster CPU). The price looks good yes. Seems to be 2k cheaper than the one i got. That shold be just over £200. Thats quite some money saved.
@m3x
Is the pci-e x4 gone? Or is it just the cpu change? Last edited by Antique on 19-May-2011 at 07:05 PM.

| Good to see an offer with a slightly better price/performance ratio. Still not a bargain literally though, but also not complete insane. Thumbs up, a step into the right direction! _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001)

Agreed. It is not on my list to be purchased, but it is good to see a serious company in this market. _________________ Power Mac G4 "Quicksilver 2002" 800Mhz, 1.5GB RAM, Radeon 8500 MorphOS 2.7 (Registered) $225 total spent!

| Wow, I didn't see that one coming either, it's nice to have surprise news like this! This is ACube's answer to those who were complaining about the high price of the Sam460
I'm just trying to make a fair comparison of the price, a Sam460ex (1.15GHz) from AmigaKit currently costs 945 EUR with RAM (there's only 2GB option available) including VAT which is 20% I think. The 1GHz 460Lite would be about 720 EUR with VAT, that's a price reduction of 225 EUR? Did I get it right? |

You are correct, the driver for the SAM 460 soundchip is being handled by ACube. _________________

| @COBRA Don't forget that Sam460Lite has a much less RAM & much smaller HD size (but probably still enough for many people I think). Also don't forget the AmigaKit's default config has *no* Radeon9250 (but you can ask them to add one), while the Sam460lite does. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. | The good think is that radeon9250 works fine in sam460, what mean everyone who want to have current working opengl over minigl , can just use radeon9250, and not radeonsHD (for now, while there is no gallium/mesa).
@hyperionmp Aha thanks for clarify

I was comparing the price of the motherboards (with RAM and OS4 included), not complete systems. In this case the only difference is 1.15GHz - 2GB RAM vs. 1GHz - 512MB RAM (and faster PCI speed on the Lite apparently) with a price difference of around 225 EUR incl. VAT (if my calculation was correct). This would make the Sam460ex-Lite a much better "value for money" than the original Sam460ex. |

| Yes I agree always great news a new board to run amiga os. Good price point, if they could somehow get it to $399 thats a nice magic number, as most of the interested buyers have cases, drives, etc laying around.
good job Acube
and release the driver ASAP :) will help you sell boards. |

slightly? 512 MB => 2 GB, it's 200 % more, 1 Ghz => 1.15 Ghz, it's 15% more. But of course it's a matter of taste _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation

Yup.
They're obviously limited in what they can do given the size of the market but getting the price down is certainly a move in the right direction. _________________ Whyzzat?

| Nice . Its about a 36% reduction. If shipped with a SD card for OS installation without a CD drive and working driver for on board sound then they would have a winner. _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card

| I've been waiting on the x1000 but this offer is very tempting, though I'm just wondering what performance I should expect from the Sam460ex, will either version be able to match the performance of my old 800MHz A1-XE G4 ? _________________ 4000T/BFG9060 CD32/Elsat ProModule, TF360 CD32/ Edu's CD32 <> A1200 Adapter, Vampire V2 CD32/ FMV Module

I imagine SAM460ex should be slightly faster, whenever Altivec does not give extra 20% boost on the G4 side.
Any information if PPC440/460 extra DSP instructions are used on anything on AOS4 or by Amiga applications.? Does gcc have compile optimisations for those instructions? _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer?

Is there any plans of making the lattice chip usable for AOS4 stuff? (releasing the needed subsystem documantation etc)
Would it be possible to build SATA adapter to the 80 pin FPGA connector? Or Atari joystick adapter?
Any plan to produce anything for the FPGA connector? _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer?

I think 1000 MHz 460EX (with faster memory and BUS on SAM) could be a little bit faster in most tasks than A1-XE G4. However, AltiVec in G4 helps much in video playback (and some other cases). Considering drivers aren´t completed and optimised yet, I would keep A1-XE. |
