Exactly what I thought, its rather confusing, I guess it does come with a AmigaOS license after all. _________________

I think the same. Better was to wait till aos4.2 (for gallium/mesa, new shell, and stuff). Just because for now , without some drivers, with such price, its make no big sense in compare with sam460. |
But the price includes OS4.2 and all the updates! You will get all this stuff later for the same price. There is no point in waiting because you will get exactly the same thing(s), only now you can get "half" of it earlier and "half" later instead of getting it "all" later. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.

Can you tell us what is special about this "First Contact" edition?
Do we get anything extra special with this release? Or will we be missing something (that can't be upgradable) with this release (such as not getting the final case design)? Or "only" 1.8GHz CPU instead of 2GHz or something like that?
I want to buy the X1000 as soon as possible but I would not like to receive an "SE" variant while those who wait will get the "XE" variant, if you see my analogy.
I understand the OS will not be OS4.2 and possibly lacking drivers but that it upgradable so it's illelevant for the decision. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.

| Fist post long time Amiga user rediscovering Amiga Hardware and AmigaOS. Since the announcement of the x1000 I have thought here we have a beast that even though can’t do anything different then an AmigaNG/Classic still has the hallmarks of a Geek Computer
1. It is Unique 2. Looks Cool 3. Potentially can and will do things no other Computer will do
Geeks or the market it will be out for will pay allot of cash. I know I am still interested and many have spent allot on their existing projects. But spending on a system that isn’t ready and then having to spend yet more on an OS Licence, Keyboard and mouse and not being Ethernet ready is too much to expect. I do get why they rushed the machine, to make up for the 2010 date miss and give amigains something for Christmas.
So will I buy one I might if the price was 800 less by midyear and all the other bits are there ready and all the Amiga Community that has come out and supported it already by opening their wallets be looked after, all wishful thinking maybe.
It is great to see new Hardware and even more encouraging to see people are interested in buying it already we Amiga users a special crowd aren’t we. |

| Hypex, Hypex, Hypex,
Unprepared huh, well, that would explain a lot of things then,
As I was starting to think that only 2 months worth of beta testing b4 christmas seemed a bit silly.
THe community had waited this long, what would have another 5 months mattered?
OK, you might get the flamers, trolls, but who cares man, Live it up, Get it working to perfection, and people who buy it can spread a good word about the machine x1000 / AOS4.x
And the way it looks like to me now, machine coming out too early for its own good, or bad I should say, I mean, if sound or whatever isnt going to be working, whats the point in bringing it out?
What, huh, what was that, because of the speed, no one in the community can live without SOUND man! Its absurd. When people get this whos to say that the sound will be fixed shortly after, for all what we know could take months or a new revision of boards????????
Dont want to sound negative, towards a positive here, but one has to admit, with so many uncertain factors atm, why would one even have announced it to the community?

Sound is absolutely required for me to use this as the main machine. But fortunately I could put my CMI8738 card in the X1000 until the onboard sound is fixed since it has 2 PCI slots.
But what I don't understand is why they choose a sound chip that is so difficult to program that it hasn't been done in 2 years! Same goes for network drivers. But since they deliver the board surely every single component must have been tested on Linux and works perfectly well. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.

| Do they do installments? :) I wouldn't mind paying 300€ for a couple of months for an X1000. But I guess that does not work between countries? |

Reminds me of back in 2002? when getting in line for an AmigaOne. Even now I feel lucky I jumped on when I did.
Early or not I sent my "interest" to amikit just now.
A netbook will be wonderful, too.

I'm sure you can ask your bank for a mini-loan to take care of this. Or better yet (better interest), take a loan from your own savings account. That's what I will do. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.

| Wow...I understand they need to recoup their development effort, but I am grossly disappointed on the price point --OUCH. I was willing to go up to $2000 US for a niche market machine, but the quoted price is well over that.
I hope that Amigakit eventually sells these items as "just motherboards" as they do with the SAM motherboards. This saves costs and reduces price to something more reasonable. From the sound of other posters over the years, I think most of the people on this discussion board have worked with the "the hardware" and would have little trouble piecing a machine together given a motherboard (again, just like with the SAM boards).
I have money burning in my pocket AmigaKit....but I wont go totally insane and buy at this price. Please release the motherboard by itself eventually and you will have one guaranteed purchase right here. :) |

True,
I might wait as IM sure they will make another production run when needed. Apparently CPU's are limited in number, but after reading that PDF, varysis have plans on bigger and better, hence,
I am assuming and thus maybe making an ass out of myself, but, that to me means if they run out of current CPU's that they've decided for the board, they will simply use upgraded CPU modules in future when they run out, if there is enough demand for the board amoungst our userbase!
Cheers
P.S. Netbook is a must for me, always wanted portable development opportunity for summertime cruise runs I do.
P.S.S. I still want the x1000, but will risk waiting until everything works with AOS before making that end game DEAL! _________________ Courtesy of SAM440Flex & Amiga OS4.1 only Flex is 800mhz A1000 with Classic 520 Amiga OS3.2.1 AmiKit 12 MorphOS PowerBook G4 (which can play youtube vids)
