Any way I can't afford an x1000 just yet, and when I can, I bet they will all be sold out. So for now I am sticking with my sam and waiting for the cyrus. |
Well Cyrus may well be a long way off given the amount of motherboard revisions needed to get to consumer-ready "bug-free" hardware, plus then the OS porting and driver development needs to be done.
Who knows, A-EON may have to consider further production runs of X1000 to fulfill demand in the meantime. The X1000 is a reliable solid design so as long as the CPU pricing is competitive, then further production runs may be preferable.Last edited by amigakit on 21-Jul-2013 at 07:22 PM. | I think a £1500 all in including OS4.x should be a max price point. £2200 is Mac Pro price for a 2007 spec machine and the killer app is still just to run the AmigaOS! My family would kill me if I spent north of £1500 on a machine that does less than our iBook G4 (which can now run MorphOS ). _________________ "Art challenges technology. I have both machines you quoted and frankly, that statement of yours is quite a lie.And a big one if i may say so.
The amigaone runs circles around the ibook G4, both in disk speed, usability and system responsiveness. And several other areas i won't comment right nowLast edited by Ami603 on 22-Jul-2013 at 08:28 AM.

| i would recommend getting an X1000 if you can afford it, its true it is a lot of money but its truly a unique system and dont forget the value of it (my gut feeling) is going to remain high, for example I'm pretty sure I could sell my X1000 for close to original price I bought it, which for any other computer a year plus old wouldn't be the case. So you could get an X1000 now enjoy it for 2 years and then sell it for the Cyrus board and I'd be surprised if you lost more than a few hundred. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio

| @Ami603 I think he means it does les than the ibook software wise. As the ibook runs both macos and morphos thats a fair statement just not really relevant if you're looking for an AmigaOS capable machine.
On-topic. Cool to see there's demand for yet another batch of the X1000
off-topic. I certainly hope the Cyrus will be cheaper than the X1000. I know this is an explosive subject in Amigaland but how about a pre-order scheme off some sort? Naturally where price was lowered as more people joined, could be a mean to make a larger initial batch. _________________

| @Troels:
Apples to oranges, see trevor blog, X1000 runs most (if not all) ppc Linux distros currently available, so running macosx is not an argument regarding software availability. _________________ Cuida tus piedras gordas.

| Hey guys! Haven't posted here in forever it seems. Dropped back in to check on things and I see all is still the same. lol.
I read with interest last year about the x1000 and read somewhere at that time it was expected to be around $1500. This time, I thought I could finally afford it. Now I logged in today and see them selling for almost 2X that amount.
A1XE $1000 - We reasoned to buy it to fund future versions. Now future versions cost 3X that amount... and the next future version will be even more.
'll drop back out for a few more years. Maybe the next time I stop by the new systems will cost $6000.
I just cannot afford to buy back into it. Oh well, have fun guys! (and gals) |

Oh yes you can! You don't have to opt for the top of the line X1000. There are other options for running OS4. You can even purchase a used OS4 machine. One day I might be selling my XE. I've seen others selling theirs. They are listed in the "For Sale" ads on AW. Open your eyes. It sounds like you are looking for an excuse not to join in.

One plus with Cyrus is that there's less on it (some consider this a drawback, but really it isn't), so there should be fewer problems and a shorter time to market.
It's rather hard to compete with Taiwanese companies when it comes to sound cards etc, so it's both cheaper and easier to just bundle a known working PCIe card than to solder something on a board in low volumes.
Edit: I still agree that people should not necessarily wait for it, but I just wanted to say "I'm a hardware engineer and I approve of this design philosophy" Last edited by olegil on 25-Jul-2013 at 09:19 AM.

Tony has been around for 10 years at least and was a former moderator on Amigaworld. He also is/was a member of the North Carolina user group with people like Lylehaze. He's well aware of what his options are. Heh.
Ahh, he just posted yesterday over there. Apparently the club site domain is expiring and they are discussing what direction to go next.

Since I feel partly responsible for the length of this thread, I thought you might like to know that I ordered an X1000 in the end |
