Okay, I can identify most things on this board, but on the back connector panel there is a black din plug beside the VGA connector... That looks like S-Video to me. Does anyone know if that is S-Video? If so, it would make this the ideal set-top / gaming / internet gizmo thingy.

Oh yeah, and this is the case I would like to house that baby into. Click on the pic for more pictures in a series. I can see that with black keyboard, mouse and black flat panel display.

I was planning to buy one of these, but if the price is right the AmigaOne Light might be more compelling

Yes, the m/b does indeed have an S-Video port. From what I can see, it's a definite challenge to the X-Box.

Hopefully it will be pretty cheap - around the £400 price point for board, ram, and CPU. But even so I will buy one - that case that was posted earlier - very nice.

If it has mass industrial appeal, as well as consumer appeal - prices can only fall.

Is the bedroom coder back? Are we gonna compute like it's1989?

Hmm...

AmigaOne Lite
DVD-Rom
30-40Gb harddrive
64-128Mb ram
Small case.
Small keyboard + mouse or a specific amiga input adopted remote control device.
OS4.x
DVD player software
DivX player software
mp3/ogg player software

Connected to my TV in the living room and my LAN.

Perfect home entertainment system :)

Depending on the price that is.

/Björn

This is excellent news IMHO.

If they succeed in keeping the price low this could really be the A1200 of the new millennium, especially if the DIN plug you're talking about is really a SVideo output (and I believe it is).

PS: by the way, I wouldn't worry too much about RAM, yes those DIMMs are pretty expensive, but remember this is an AmigaOS4 powered machine, not our "beloved" RAM-Eater-OS (tm)

Sell it in a nice case with prominent Amiga branding, a DVD-ROM drive and (a cut-down/adapted) OS4 on ROM, bundle it with a game controller and a small amount of NV-RAM and you have... an AmigaOne-CD32

Well, not really so expensive if it can use the standard PC133 SODIMM. On PriceWatch.com 512MB can be had for as little as $65 (US). That is really reasonable.

... and don't forget a standard bundled mouse and keyboard. Lowend Amigas have always been the hackable games machine, accessible to the gamer who is curious about more.
That's what I loved about the A500, compared to the ordinary game consoles. As simple or as complex as you want it to be.

Today is always about modding game consoles which in most cases is illegal. They take away the creativity aspect of using your hardware. If you want to be creative with a game console, you have to pay up. If you want to be really creative, you have to go out and buy a PC.

Why punish people legally or financially for being creative?

Absolutely, but the intention with that example spec was that it should be as cheap as possible, and aimed squarely at the gamers market. Of course it will be expandable to a "real" AmigaOne, just like the CD32 was, and the manual should mention this and advise that you can expand it, add a hard drive, keyboard etc, and once the gamers start wanting to tinker, they can get the neccessary bits to do this quite cheaply. That one board could be sold in "CD32" and "A1200" configurations, with different bundled accessories depending on the target market. Whilst they are all the same board underneath, you can sell more units if they appear to be different machines for different people (all running the same software, and the games being bootable from CD on the CD32 type device)

chris:i agree but with such the price must be "VERY" attractable , ie to get people from the outer places aswell as the amiga gamers etc.

i mean... i atleast have no prob in paying more for my amiga than my ps2...but alot of people wont!..

not for now anyway...

cheers
