Likewise - I've been trying to find something that silences the startup chime on the Mac. The only utility seems to come up with an error. As long as we can turn it off on the Amiga, I'm happy.
Then again, I've not actually bothered to attach speakers to my AmigaOne yet so it's not much of an issue at the moment _________________ Snowboarder, Airsofter, Programmer, Writer and AmigaOne XE G4 owner. Experienced applications developer and part-time snowboard instructor

I prefer that to a sound that starts playing when the Workbench is loaded. I've always kinda liked the way that Sony did the short sound bit, followed by their animated logo when you power up a Vaio. Something like that would be really nice. |
SiliconGraphics machines are good for that. Each model has a different start sound that plays the instant you hit the power-on button. Unlike the simple short jingles on other machines, the SGI sounds are quite 'funky'.
I looked for some samples online, but didn't find any. So I recorded the boot sound from my ancient SGI Indy here. (Sorry about the quality.) _________________ Matt

Yes, exactly something like that. Short and sweet. But for it to happen at "power on" it would have to be in the rom, and from what I understand, the A1 Rom isn't large enough to hold power on sounds and logo's, so I guess we will likely use the Windows way of doing it. |

It's not yet decided how it will be done, but I'm currently doing it by playing it as the machine boots and I really like it that way. |

| This is great news! I hope there will be sound scheme support in os4, as I already have a lot of ideas for creating some. |

Cool. Well playing while booting isn't bad either. That's different to either the Mac or PC, so it will be unique. But it cannot be too long of a jingle, as some people have really short boot times. |

It could continue playing when finished booting Or, how about an audible countdown !
FOUR. four, four.... (echo-ing...) THREE, three, three... TWO, two, two..... ONE, one, one.... FIRE !!

Does this mean the sound plays through the on-board audio chip on the A1? What about users that have sound cards? Or does this use the OS4 audio system further along in the boot process?
Questions questions.....
Thanks |

Good question ! OS4 cant play any sound before the OS drivers are loaded ! So I'd think it plays a tune when it is done loading...

| It's probably just a command in the startup-sequence playing the sound, so you could place it anywhere you like or remove it easily if you wish. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com

| True! and even Windows users can change . . . . . . their sound, I mean: Pick a new startup sound Psst! You can mute the Mac. _________________ -vortexau, who's A1 XE-G4 remains at half-RAM ! A2000HD (from 1991) 060 64Mb PicassoII with OS3.5 . . . still working.

>i changed it to a sound clip from that great film, The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Isn't that the ancient B/W one with the UFO landing and the robot that killed everyone who came close with a laser shooting from its eyes ?
And in the end they where just there to warn the earths population to not destroy themselfs, but it as usualy people didn't understand it and tried to kill the visitors and as such sealing there own faith

A .mod should be small enough to fit in the Uboot. One of the coolest mods I've heard, was called "the church", it was only 3kb _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff!

Well, it was never the mod itself that took up space, it was the samples. So called "chip tunes", which used _really_ short, looping, samples could be made to take up less room than you would shake a stick at. The mod formats are very strong when it comes to doing cool stuff to the samples, so all you need from a basic sample is an integer number of periods of each frequency component. Then you can simulate attack/decay using the mod instruction set and just loop the whole sample. Quite cool _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.
