Hardware News   Hardware News : IBM posts first pdf document about 90nm 970 FX PPC CPU
   posted by Eric_S on 22-Jan-2004 17:20:58 (2334 reads)
IBM has posted the first official information of the 90 nm CPU called PowerPC 970FX, in a PDF entitled:

"IBM PowerPC Quick Reference Guide".

In the document (page 10), one learns that the PowerPC 970FX, the 90nm version of the PowerPC 970, consumes 24.5W at 2.0GHz while the original 970 consumes 51W at 1.8GHz. The 970FX speeds are only listed as 1.4-2.0+ GHz, but when reading this and the max bus speed of 1.1Ghz one should remember that the originaly leaked specs for the 970 indicated that it'd max out at 1.8 Ghz with a max bus speed of 900Mhz.

It might allso be interesting to remember this pressrelease by Mai Logic when reading the above pdf.

Pop a couple of those 2.0GHz onto this. Or even this, once it is finished, then get OS4 up and running on it.

I wouldn't count on Eyetech selling those, they'll be waiting on the Theron I.
But perhaps Elbox...

Wow. If true figures, they are very impressive. The news in the linked register article also bodes very well for AMD.

I'm starting to believe we may see some big changes in the hardware landscape this year.

I just tried to go to the PDF file posted about, and got an access denied type of page.
