Dunno .. Thanks for the report though ..

50 people ? Thats pretty damn good.

Shows more northerners are interested in Amigas than southerners !!

I can't get more than 2 people interested in a Midlands demo.

Well I have to say that the show was as successful as it was largely because of the help given by experienced campaigners like Jurassic Camper, Sicky, SEAL, Total Amiga etc. But that's what the Amiga community is all about - helping each other to make computing enjoyable again I was really impressed by the OS4 setups Sicky and Jurassic had, and learnt a lot.

We were also pleased that several people who came to the show will now be attending North East Amiga User Group meetings (7.30pm on last Tuesday of every month in the Newcastle Arms, Newcastle upon Tyne). Looks like Bobsonsirjohnny is also realising that he can't bear to tear himself away from the Newcastle, so he may continue to entertain us with his prodigious beer-drinking feats )

Thanks for the well written report.

Good to see so many people show up, lets hope that interest grows even bigger after the (pre)release of OS4 and future meetings will get even more visitors.

- The estimate that only 1000 a1's have been sold is a bit dissapointing to me, I would have believed something like 2000 to be sold by now :(

-"Genesi have indeed won rights to get Amiga Inc to port AmigaDE aka Amiga Anywhere to the Pegasos and any other product they produce but that's as far as it goes"
Sounds bad, if it is every product Genesi makes a prototype or commercial version of they have to port to.

-"One of them was running Linux with an emulated windows environment"
What was that? need a better description.

im sorry, I assumed it was fairly obvious... Im guessing the microA1 was running Debian linux distro, with bochs window emulation ontop. Which was running windows XP playing an mp3 in windows media player. Speed wise it was fine for general useage like word processing etc, but its not fast enough for games due to the ppc to x86 emulation.

Bochs is fast enough to run emulated XP and play MP3's on a MicroA1?

I always believed that Bochs was very close to unusable, but this sounds like something that might be worth getting ported to OS4!

Good report Ryu . Thanks .

Thanks also to the organisers for putting on a good show .

I wonder how many people have been put off going to this
sort of event recently because they thought there would be
nothing new to see . Well - this one did have something
that was well worth taking a day trip to Newcastle for .
AOS4 is shaping up very nicely & now I'm itching to get
my hands on a copy .

p.s. the beer was good too .
Did the landlord get Brewers Gold from Crouch Vale brewery
specially because there were some folk coming from Essex ?

If you ask the OS4beta testers I'm sure they would come.
It was mentioned in newcastle that peterborough was going to be the next one.

Was it ?

Thats interesting to know.

Rigo has already said he will bring his A1. Dunno if Mikey or Sicky follow in his footsteps?

Perhaps I should just take a chance and go ahead with it anyway ? Although I wll look a bit silly if only 5 people turn up.

Who's was the large screen on the Newcastle demo ? I don't have anything of that calibre... My monitor is only a 21" CRT.

Well mick sutton and myself have already discussed coming and said we would.
My monitor is a 19" CRT, some one did bring a Projector but it only
handled resolutions upto 800x600.
I got the short straw when we was setting up my A1 was closest to the projector so it got attached to mine.
Hey how about making it the UK OS4 beta CD release party.
Off course you'll need to ask hyperion when it will be done.
Massive p!$$ up, buffet, DJ, party etc. Don't mind chipping in a few $$$ to help.
Ask fleecy, alan etc to come.

You're not quite right there, the A1 lite was running Linux (dunno what distro) but Windows was a remote desktop from a Windows XP server machine running natively. From what I heard of Alan's speech I think the idea is that they will sell AmigaOne Lites as small, low power terminals connected to a windows/linux server to give users their desktop. An example given was of a call centre where they probably only use one or two screens in one application all day.

@The_editor

I can probably make it to a Peterborough show, if I can be arsed to get up early enough in the morning.

I'd much rather see the OS4 Pre-Release on my own AmigaOne though

Chris

Thats a Brilliant idea. guess we could make first two hours an os demo .. Maybe show off clean installs on fresh hard drives ..

Install .. configure printers etc ?

Maybe Sven will attend and flog some new gear ??

Alan or maybe Some of the Hyperion crew ?

Then, as you say .. Pack stuff away and have a Disco / Pi$$ up (there is a bar included in the hall).

Would mean that I would have to charge an entrance fee though to pay for the disco ( & buffet ??) which is something I hadn't planned on.

guess I will have to see if I can catch Ben on IRC.

If anyone is reading this and is interested in attending a Midlands demo (or just the Pi$$up) ..... THIS is the place to post your interest !!

(sorry to hijack your thread Ryu)
