Hardware News   Hardware News : Apollo 630 new production? It's up to you.
posted by Anonymous on 23-May-2004 19:50:41 (3392 reads)
Accelerators for the Amiga 600 are hard to come by. Right now there is an opportunity for a new production of the Apollo 630 if interest exists.

Product Information:
Apollo 630

A small batch of the accellerator board (68030@40 MHz, SIMM socket for up to 32MB RAM, socket for 68882 FPU) will get produced if at least 50 people order a board. A single board would cost 130 EUR (incl. VAT).

If you're interested, please contact matthias.bertram@cm-factory.de through e-mail. Until now, Matthias has collected three orders.

I would like to have one, but must first check if my A600 is revision 1.3 because this revision did have problems with exaclty that Apollo 630 card.
But perhaps the PCB design of the new card will be corrected.

And 130 Euro is very much because that was already the price years ago.

Hello Jim

Put me down as a positive maybe... I'll need an A600 first though, but that can be worked out.

@Bodie_CI5

Howdy Please relay that through the email link provided. We aren't involoved at this time, besides being a reseller for Individual Computers products. Just relaying the news. I wouldn't mind stocking a few of them should it be produced.

Why would it be any cheaper to make as time goes on? Plus only 50 are being made, which really would be the minimum to justify setting up a production ..

So who (what company) is making it?

I'd rather have it that production of the BlizzardPPC and G-Rex were resumed and with a new flash-BIOS that doesn't demand a rev 2 BlizzardPPC.

development is already done so no R&D.
68030 are in every washing mashine, so are very cheap.
The design won't changed, I asked Matthias this morning. The same PCB design will be taken.

BTW if there are 100 orders, the price will drop to 100 Euro.

Don't forget that if it's the SAME price now that it was a few years ago, it's actually cheaper in real terms if you take inflation into account, generally the price of everything increases, and with a bit of luck so does your income.

It all depends on your point of view

As it stands It's not something I need, I have never had an A600 and am never likely to either (hey somebody has stolen my numberpad ) A1 is the way to go for me.

@ Bodie_CI5

I can sell you my old A600 if you like. It's still kicking around at a friends place but it should still be good...

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.
