KMOS CEO TO SPEAK AT AMIWEST 2004 BANQUET
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

By special arrangement, KMOS CEO Dr. Garry Hare will present the banquet address at the AmiWest 2004 Saturday evening banquet!

KMOS is the company that has purchased the Amiga OS. Garry gave his first interview in March shortly after KMOS made that purchase.

Now, here is a little more information (more to follow) about Garry.

For over two decades Garry has focused on enabling technology and the creation and distribution of digital media. He is CEO of KMOS, Inc. KMOS is creating or acquiring technologies that enable wired and wireless devices to deliver rich media content and services to households and businesses. Recently KMOS announced it most recent acquisition, the Amiga operating system. This unique technology is currently being adapted for the next generation of mobile communication chip sets, ushering in new forms of mobile communication.

"Grasshopper won't release PageStream 5 for AOS4?"

What the *ell !? Where is that said?

Last time I checked PageStream support was continuing for AOS.

If you didnt claim to have an A1 already, Id think you were just a troll. Right now, looking at the posts you have made over the last few weeks, and threads you have started, you just seem irrational.

I really hope you are right. I really like my A1 with AOS4beta. It is online in seconds just to check some emails or this site. And can switch it off in 1 second. Can't do that with all the other computers running at home/work.

The problem I have is that the mobile communication market is shared by some big companies (Nokia, Siemens, Philips, Sony-Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola) how does KMOS want to enter this market?

Remember Amiga Inc. proudly announced TV Setop boxes from Nokia and the Sharp Zaurus with Amiga DE: but none happened.

Here's what's written on grasshoppers homepage:

"The AmigaOS4 version schedule will depend on new developments with Amiga Inc now out of the picture. We are still commited to producing a native version of PageStream for OS4, and we should have a schedule soon."

The last time I checked the homepage "it only stated PGS 5 depends on development of Amiga."

The last sentence about a native version for AOS4 wasn't online the last time I checked.

I really hope I'm wrong with my conclusions. But I see the communication market saturated with no place for new companies. That means no money for KMOS, so no money for new AOS and this leads to no new progs.

On the other hand I would be more than happy if i'm proven wrong.

Ok.

Earlier in the spring I went through all the material I could dig out about KMOS, Itec and Garry. I see no cellphone business etc. Their target seems to be a bit larger footprint device (like the miniITX size A1) for broadband media use.

Such additional niche market would not distract R&D focus too far from the desktop. I think it could just strenghten the focus on lean & mean & multimediacapable AmigaOS.

"the next generation of mobile communication chip sets"

made my imagination fly ... what could it be.

- It will be PowerPC related.
- Or could it be Sony/IBM Cell processor related... ?
- Does it just mean the current development of AOS4 towards miniA1 ? (+ some positive spin)
- Is it a new Artisia chip & board (nano sized board, or laptop board perhaps) ?
- is it IBM PPC440 derivate with some on-die "custom chips" ?
- Is it like that coming/new Sony handheld ?
- The Thendic/Genesi Eclipse revived ?

Personally, if he's allowed, I think Garry might get more enjoyment out of recounting the preparations for court again, especially as nothing bad seems to have come from it. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to talk through his hat, if ya get my meaning. Speculation can be fun, but can we keep it at least a little bit in check?

I don't think it matters what KMOS is up to. I mean as long as the systems KMOS supplies have an A1 or MicroA1 running AOS at their core, it's all good! How can some people allow Eyetech to make Kiosk systems, yet not allow KMOS to make communications products?

Every A1 or MicroA1 with AOS sold keeps Hyperion and Eyetech around for the rest of us.

I am going to be at Amiwest 2004. I'll hear what he has to say about KMOS. But, the main reason I'm going is to buy myself an AmigaOne, pick up a copy of the pre-release and buy some applications that run on it.
