hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : AmigaOnes available in Europe
posted by Anonymous on 29-Apr-2005 10:05:09 (4704 reads)
Despite the doommongering rumours currently going around, for some unknown reason, it is perfectly possible to buy AmigaOne configs (both µA1-C and XEs) in Europe, and always has been.

Amont Informatique has plenty of stock. You can see the configs here. For those who can't read French, don't worry, I'm fully bilingual and can answer your queries by email: contact@amont-info.com

this is, of course, good news, but the Euro symbol seems not to be displayed - what encoding should be used (IE5 here is set to Western European ISO).

Since those XE boards haven't been sold yet, wouldn't it be better to get them fixed all at once? (i.e. before they get spread out to the four corners of the galaxy)

Are these XE's a new batch with a fixed revision of the mobo ?
Or a batch of previously unrleased boards with post production fixes ?
Not that it matters I'm just curious

At least they are delivered with a SIL board. But I agree they should be fixed, especially because the fix is not that difficult and not that expensive.

the fix is DIFFICULT! people who state otherwise either doesnt know what the fix really is or are skilled within the field, if it had been dead easy ...dont u think there would have been docs on aminet or whatever then?..

expensive...no not at all but then again that depends from person to person.

Well I have sent an E-mail enquiring about a business purchase but I expect I will run in to the same brick wall I have experienced with all the other Amiga dealers I have spoken too.

My employer is only willing to make direct credit card purchases and is unwilling to purchase through paypal and as they have been unwilling so fare to give me written conformation paying my expenses I have been unwilling to take the risk of ordering with my own money for a work computer.

Although I am getting to the level of desperation ware I am willing to take the risk for my home Computer.

Only In the Amiga market would I be unable to place the order for 2 computers (one which is for evaluation of possible commercial development) as know one thinks my order is worth the effort.

This sounds vaguely familiar , Are the maker/suppliers of these systems somehow connected to the makers /suppliers of an older Amiga card , can you say Emplant? Oh and how nice for Europe eh? what about the rest of the world?

I am not in Europe, but North America.

When I was still in the market...years ago now, but even then, I can say, that I could not find a place that would let me order with a credit card, for a product that they had in stock and would deliver the next day.

Already the game was afoot: take enough pre-orders, collecting money in advance, to finally place a large order, and eventually give the product to the customers, with their guaranteed profit assured. The number of Amiga dealers willing to invest in this market by holding stock was already zero, some years ago.

Thats my opinion...I have found memories of paxtron, and even of software hut, backs in its heyday. But... I don't find them to be worthwhile anymore.

I don't understand, given that there is a market, even though small, that someone couldn't hold stock...it will turn over. I think the problem is eyetech. They look for pre-orders before even manufacturing the boards....the pre-order phenomena is all the way, from top to bottom.

if eyetech produced boards before getting payment for them, they would be looking to turn those boards over...gone would be the minimum orders, gone would be the burden of placing larger orders on dealers...and eventually you would see a more normalized supply model, with boards in stock.

but for whaever reason, this won't happen...neither eytech, or their once competitor genesi could manufactur boards in advance of payment.

@ikir and everyone else

The G4XEs can be fixed. In which case they're no longer Earlybirds, so you pay for OS4 (120 ¤ inc VAT) and you don't get the Si680 card. It's the purchaser's choice. I ain't fussy, I'm just not forcing anyone to pay the extra if they don't want to.

(However people, if you ain't personally buying, please don't go into Putting The World To Rights Mode. It's rude, to put it mildly).

Hi,

Perhaps no A1 G4's in Europe... but at least one in Australia.

http://connect.to/amiga

It's had the USB fix applied.

The DMA fix has not been applied as Eyetech say that a software fix is likely and any hardware fix would mean the patched software wouldn't work.

However the board comes with a SIL680 HD controller... which makes the whole thing a non-issue.

If someone really wants one I guess I could sell mine, it's a G4 XE. It's probably not used more than about 50 hours. How much do you bid? :)

The Link above is deadish, it needs to be the root http://www.amont-info.com/

And I'd like to confirm that Rose is great to deal with, although if you can use Bank Transfer rather than the rather expensive Pay-Pal, (s)he'll give you all the details.
Sorry, can't tell if Rose is a French boys' or Girls' name!

Feel free to insert your own bilinugual joke there.
