| This is good news indeed, but I have a really stupid question to ask.
Is it theoretically possible to connect via firewire? And would this give a faster connection speed than ethernet?
If the speed would allow me to play games on an MS machine but through the Amiga at a good speed this would really be something I could use. I know games refresh rates push everything to the max, but if someone knows if firewire would help I would be very grateful. _________________ Greg Schofield, Perth Australia

| The GUI looks VERY cute! If all the programs would have a manga picture in the GUI I'd be very happy :)

I think he meant that VBA-Gui is updated, and Twin-vnc is a sneak-preview of what is to come?
Atleast that is how i parsed this information. _________________ Life is fragile enough, why use windows on top of that?

There are two ways to do this.
You can emulate Ethernet (A data link layer, or layer 2) over Firewire and use any layer 3 protocol, such as IP over it, this would require a SANA-2 networking driver written for a Firewire chipset, that would emulate the data link layer of emulate to fit firewire.
Or you can use IP over Firewire which allows you to send IP (a layer 3 protocol) over firewire. This would also require a sana-2 driver written for a firewire chipset capable of sending IP packets over firewire.
Solution number one is better since it means you can easily run any protocol (not just IP) over the Firewire connection and use it like any other Ethernet connection (complete with ARP and MAC addresses and so forth). Solution number two is probably simpler to implement (although I wouldn't really know, I haven't looked at the code).
There are open source examples of both available for both Linux and FreeBSD and I know Windows XP at least supports Ethernet over Firewire by default, and that Mac OS X at least supports IP over Firewire by default.
It's mainly a matter of finding someone with the time and hardware to make the driver (and no that's not me) or possibly paying someone to do it for you depending on how badly you want it _________________ --- Sibbi

Thanks I just needed to know that it was possible. There is no urgency.

| @Ami603, Nice work!
@Toaks, good to hear there's more to come on OS4Depot! I heard something about a MySQL GUI for OS4 that I haven't seen in the Recent section.
@Origin, how about making a few more ppl admins at OS4Depot? Toaks for example.
(edit: That's supposed to be a MySQL CLIENT, not anything else..)

As i tried to get it to english by copying the locale file to progdir: , correct locale folders etc etc, and it only was spanish anyway, and my spanish is *cough* limited *cough* |
You need to have english selected as a language in your locale preferences, too (after your native language), so that the catalog files will be loaded. Of course, english should be the build in (and fallback) language of every application.

| Sorry guys, I've been hospitalized for a few days. It happened too fast to get word to any of those who can administrate os4depot besides me. I'll go through the archives this evening, right now I just want to settle down and feel at home.

| @FuZion:
As allways, i'm opened to suggestions. If you look at the readme, there's my email address so everyone who needs a specific feature can ask for it. There's a small line behind all the projects i start, that i do just for learning specific API's, so once the program is working more or less well,i forget about it and start working on something bigger. _________________ Cuida tus piedras gordas.
