Looks fun, I wonder how much it would cost (if it ever got that far).

For anyone not conversant in Dutch (like me), here is a machine-translated version of the relevant text, which I tried to clean-up a little:
Demonstration Minimig by Dennis van Weeren
Minimig is an A500 compatible Amiga, where the 3 custom chips Agnus, Denise and Paula has been implemented in a single FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array, a programmable logical chip). Now Minimig still only exists as three experimental circuit boards, but the intention is eventually make a real motherboard that can run most of the existing Amiga 500 software. Software is loaded from of a MMC memory stick by means of a PC. card reader can become to provide with ADF images. These ADF images are then read by Minimig as if they are normal floppy diskettes.

I've been keeping up with this over on Amiga.org, and I am very impressed. A fantastic project.

@amipal

Likewise. It was a shame to see some people were incredibly negative about it to begin with there, even accusing it of being a complete fake/hoax. Kudos to Dennis for ignoring the naysayers, and showing grabs of his FPGA MiniMig running.

For those that are able to see this in action, I am sure it will be the highlight of the day.

Well, even in small quantities, this would be quite cheap. At quantities < 100 probably £50 is achievable with a small profit.
At large quantities, very cheap - £20 retail, £10 disties. You could build it into a snazzy chinese keyboard for this price.

@_Steve_ if you look on ann.lu, it seems there's still some doubts...

@Thread

Great. Maybe it would be possible to build it in a Joystick (like C=64) for Games ? The market for these should be even bigger than for those C=64Joysticks !

Being able to play classic games like Turrican from one of those joysticks would be great! I guess that the biggest cost would be memory, since each Amiga game must be an ADF image (which is about 1MB when uncompressed).

What I'd really like (and which an A500 doesn't have *quite* enough power for) is to play Elite 2 (Frontier) any time, any where. Any chance the CPU (is it emulated on the FPGA?) could be 'overclocked' to 50MHz?

Good luck for the show, and look forward to seeing how the hardware performs.

I cannot look, as ANN doesn't seem to be working here right now. I just get a server error.

...Hmm...it's working now. And I didn't see anything too skeptical in their posts, unlike the first few pages of the A.Org thread.

Only this comment: Quote:
" At least a first step could come if the product (Minimig) could had being presented to Commodore International R&D department, and hope it will meet their interest."

doesn't really make much sense, as the current holders of the Commodore logo, do not hold anything to do with the Amiga or it's IP. Also, given how the minimig has been produced, I doubt there is any infringing on AI IP either. The only thing you need authorisation for is the rom (or use of a rom image).
