Hardware News   Hardware News : AmigaOne CPU Module Demonstration Rescheduled:
posted by ackcontrls on 22-May-2006 15:56:17 (11870 reads)
I know.....a slightly longer wait. As with all plans with tight schedules, I have hit a bit of a technical barrier that prevents me from making the live demonstration of a working CPU module. Similarly, I didn't have the time to set up a proper agenda for the event. I was not expecting people to physically want to visit in person and have addressed this properly. In addition a few others mentioned that the original date being on a Monday would be difficult to participate in. Here is the new date, timing and location for the event:

Date: Saturday, June 10th, 2006
Time: 4:00 pm EDT (Eastern Daylight Savings Time)

Location:

The UPS Store
26-200 Fitch Street
Welland, ON L3C 4V9
Canada

Parking and space is limited. Please e-mail your intention to attend. Beverages and food will be provided.

Agenda:

4:00 pm Brief Introduction
4:10 pm Overview of the CPU module Installation and Settings
4:30 pm Booting OS4
4:35 pm Benchmark Testing
5:00 pm Question & Answer Period
5:55 pm A Few Final Words
6:00 pm Wrap-Up

The Question and Answer period will first take questions from the people physically in attendance at the demonstration followed by questions via IRC and e-mail.

Sincerest apologies on the delays to those who have been waiting very patiently.

I agree:
It would be nice to know if there is an option to preorder.

Not a bad idea. People with broken CPUs really need new modules, those upgrading working machines can wait a bit. If I were upgrading (don't have the cash ) I wouldn't mind letting people with broken CPUs jump ahead of me in the queue, partucularly if they were software developers.

@Hans

Yeah, but there are not _that_ many broken CPU's out there. A few, yes, but if Adam produces a run of say 500 - 1000 (just an arbitrary number), then there should still be room for those guys to get their CPU along with everyone else. Now those with working A1's, that's a different story.

As one with a working A1 (soon to be TWO working A1s, I hope), I could not agree more. Feed the starving first, we don't HAVE to have 1.7 GHz CPUs when we've been quite happy with 800-933 MHz machines for (in my case) the last 3 years.

Exactly, so focus on the Powervixxen LT, hardware that was announced over 1 1/2 (!!!) years ago instead of dreaming that a new high-end can "be done" within a few months.

The past should be enough of a lesson.

And concerning OS4.0 development:

Focus on getting the issues fixed quickly that keeps you from releasing OS4.0 for Classic PPC. There are hundreds of OS4.0-ready platforms out there already.

Nonsense!

No starving first. I want a 1.7 GHz CPU, NOW.

If the first production run meets the demand of people that want one then there is no problem anyway. Problems occur if the production run is like Eyetech did them. Too low.
