Internet News   Internet News : Total Amiga Issue 18 Available for Free Download
posted by rhino on 23-May-2006 23:43:48 (2178 reads)
Issue 18 of Total Amiga magazine (from July 2004), which sold out a few months ago, is now available for free download in PDF format from the Total Amiga web site:

http://www.totalamiga.org

This issue includes, amongst many other interesting items: reviews of Hollywood Designer, SoundFX 4.3, the Pegasos II and MicroGoldEd; the third part of our C programming tutorial and a tutorial on creating cross-platform PDFs with Ghostscript.

Issue 18 joins many other fine Total Amiga and Clubbed issues already available for free download in our Back Issues section. So, if you've been thinking about subscribing to Total Amiga, why not take a look at one of these back issues and see what you've been missing!

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Number 18 cannot be read by Apdf 2.2 (68k) completely. All the pictures are missing.

Strange! It works fine with AmiPDF on OS4, I will get Robert to check it.

Ah, I wondered if this might be a problem...

I made this PDF in Ghostscript on the Amiga which AFAIK cannot produce a PDF with images compatible with APDF 2.2. PDFs made with Ghostscript work fine on the later MorphOS version of APDF, OS4's PDF viewer and of course viewers on other platforms.

For previous editions, I created the PDF in Adobe Distiller on a PC at work which ( ironically) produced APDF 2.2 compatible files. I don't have easy access to Distiller at work any more hence the move to GS. As you obviously need APDF 2.2 compatibility I'll see whether I can get a new version made with Distiller.

BTW... to add to the irony the final print quality PDF files of each copy of Total Amiga are created using GhostScript and are sent to our printers (who are a PC based shop) and we've never had any compatibility problems.

It would be great the author of APDF (or someone else, APDF is open source) would back port the updated MOS version to 68K, that would make life much easier. Of course if anyone knows how to make GS create compatible files I'm very keen to know that too!

Thanks for reporting the problem,

Robert

Thank you for giving your back issues for free! Much appriciated!

As you already pointed out, the problems lies in the 68k/WarpOS version of APDF which sucks and has awful PDF support. Personaly, when i want to read a PDF i boot with MorphOS and use the MOS version of APDF which has excellent PDF support.
So yeah. MOS to AOS backporting would be a very good idea.
