Hardware News   Hardware News : M-Audio Delta sound cards supported
   posted by DaveAE on 8-Sep-2006 20:12:27 (3520 reads)
The semi-professional M-Audio Delta 44, 66, 1010LT and Terratec Phase 88 sound cards are now supported by an OS4 native Envy24 driver that has just been uploaded to OS4depot.

See here for more information on the M-Audio cards: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.list&ID=pciinterfaces.

Note that the multiple inputs and outputs are of limited use under AHI, but at least the sound quality of these cards is very good and the cards have decent connectors.

Good news Dave. More pro drivers for os4 ;) As it uses Envy24ht i believe the record/playback quality should be the same as on my ESI Juli@ card ?!

Thanks Dave for letting us have good soundcards on os4.

@Kicko

Thanks!

It uses the Envy24 (not HT). These chips are audio controllers and don't influence the quality much. It's the AK chips that are also present in your Juli@ that make the quality. FYI, the Envy24 can control 10 output and 12 input channels, the Envy24HT does 10 outputs and 4 inputs.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Was I dreaming this, or did DaveAE say that he had an improved version of AHI in the pipeline that was supposed to add all these advanced audio features?

An implementation of OpenAL would be awesome...

It's not an improved version of AHI, but a new audio/streaming system called eXtream. I put it on hold in January though, in favour of porting AE5 to Windows and OSX. I hope to finish that early next year and we'll see what happens next.

In theory I could add the AHI 7.1 mode to the 1010LT and Phase88, in practice it has low priority. OpenAL would also need to be adapted to know how to feed data to a 7.1 AHI mode, which is a little less obvious to make than it sounds.

Does the Envy stuff use AOS4 specific functions or it could be ported easily to a classic system with say a Prometheus ?

[EDIT] When the Prometheus gets DMA that is, wich is probably soon.

It uses OS4 specific functions and I'm not intending to support anything other than OS4, sorry.
