Internet News   Internet News : IBM Now Selling Cell Blades
   posted by Seer on 13-Sep-2006 19:13:35 (1748 reads)
IBM has started selling blade servers that use the nine-core Cell processor originally developed for video games.

An IBM representative wouldn't say how much the blades cost, but a customer announcement said they run $18,995 each.

Guess we Amigans are used to high hardware prices but this is out of my league even if OS4 was available for it

Still nice to see CELL based hardware becoming available though.

Hi Troels,

Problem is, ibm doesn't make computers for people.

That's why PPC chips are still almost unusable.

@Atheist

Couple of notes (I'll try not to advertise, just speaking from some expirience):

1. Big Blue made it clear that they are not interested in "peoples" market by selling their Thinkpad division to Lenovo

2. For the price they ask one gets much more than a "high quality pc with a nifty cpu": it is well built server with one "hellova os" (AIX) . They do know how to engineer things.
