Internet News   Internet News : Amiga.nl domain back where it belongs
   posted by PulsatingQuasar on 3-Nov-2006 23:20:05 (2016 reads)
For many, many months the amiga.nl domain was in the hands of a company that didn't rightfully own it. But now it is back where it belongs and the Dutch community website is now reachable again under www.amiga.nl

Welcome back people.

So what kind of company had it before, and what sorts of things were they doing with it?

Good news for amiga.nl
I'd like to know more about the details of how the ownership changed hands.

@NomadOfNorad

One of those domain hijackers. The domain officially belongs to Computer City. It has been for many, many years now.

They notified their provider they wanted to switch to another. Without notifying that provider canceled the domain registration. One of those domain hijackers was inline to register it. But because this kind of practice is unlawful, the domain eventually went back to Computer City( after some legal action).

And they weren't doing anything with it. They just wanted to sell it. Which is unlawful too. I read something about that recently.

@PulsatingQuasar

Ah, so that's what it was...

Well, I'm glad to hear that that sort of hijacking is now illegal.

Hmmmm... but is it illegal everywhere, or just in that country?

I have also a small problem in hat direction with "amigaclub.be"

Someone is sending massmails with "x@amigaclub.be" , where x is most of the time some random keycombination. Now everytime such a mail gets bounced because of a non-existent adress or because it's recognized as spam ,that server sends back a notification that ofcours arrives in my mailbox because every mail "@amigaclub" is redirected to me.
