@The ED
Well I think he said he was going to go by Train
Because he's 50 miles in the wrong direction from me

Hitman if your reading this the Train journey is 4 hours each way according to the rail network website
I thought if you could have got to north camp (Hampshire) I could have picked you up but that's down as 3 hours each way!!!!

And the government wonders why people don;t use Public transport

Just checked Tickets price and the cheapest is wait for it, better sit down £41 return

Not trying to put you off, but the meeting might be over before you get there

and of course you still have to get from the station to the meeting!

Thats absolutely crazy... and as you rightly say... No wonder people don't use public transport.

Did you know, when I left Perth W.A in 1983 a train ticket cost just 80 cents and you could use the same ticket numerous times on ANY bus, train or ferry for up to TWO HOURS.

How far will the intercity sprinter go in two hours ? Would sure as heck get a long way towards Peterborough.

No wonder we call this "Rip off England".

@ Ed
Quite Right I mean North camp station is less than 50 miles from East Grinstead but to take 3 hours!!! that's averaging just under 17 miles an hour
Quick catch that snail

@ ajs

Unbelieveable, 3 hours to go 50 miles?

What do they do, stop at every driveway and mailbox?

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

@The_Editor

Thanks for reminding me - I would have forgotten my laptop otherwise!

Hey!

I had actually planned to come, and did some research on how to get there, but to be honest I couldn't justify the £41 train fare! I am not working at the moment (I have a programming job but can't start until I get my UK work pass) so I have to be careful with my money. It's a shame because I really want to catch up with some Amigans and show off my AmigaOne!

I will go to ANT on Sunday the 13th of May though, and will certainly travel up to 3CAG once I starting earning those English £££s!

In the meantime it's back to waiting for the Home Office to process my application! At least it gives me lots of time to program my Amiga while waiting!

It's not the time that worries me - for me, 3 hours in the train == 3 hours of reading geeky programming books! It's quite enjoyable reading about interrupt handlers while the countryside rushes by (I was doing that just yesterday)!

What worries me is the outrageous cost of trains in Britain! I mean £41 for a 3 hour trip?!!! I have just lived in Singapore for a couple of years and £41 == S$100, which would pay for my train tickets to work for months over there. For S$100 you could get a return ticket from Signapore to Thailand, which is about a 24 hour trip each way! And here that just gets you as far as Peterborough...

The cost of living in Britain is something that is going to take a lot of getting used to!
