Internet News   Internet News : YAM 2.5 sneak preview available with AmigaOS4
posted by tomazkid on 23-Nov-2007 13:55:16 (4233 reads)
From Yam Support Site:

"23 November 2007 - YAM 2.5 sneak preview available with AmigaOS4...

The YAM developer team is proud to announce that in cooperation with Hyperion Entertainment, the upcoming release of the 'Classic' version of AmigaOS4 (to be released on 30th November) will come with an official sneak preview version of YAM 2.5. This version will be PowerPC native, comes with a fully working default installation and was contributed to allow users of AmigaOS4 to have a look at the current state of the development of YAM 2.5. In addition, we hope to get some more feedback from those users having installed the sneak preview so that we can finalise our development on YAM 2.5 and release a stable version soon. So please stay tuned and enjoy the sneak preview version waiting for you on the 'Classic' release of AmigaOS4."

Very good news indeed. YAM has come a long way and is the best mail application on any plattform, IMO.

Not much, it actually is a nightly build, but with disabled debugging and with no timeout so that the AmigaOS4 CD is still usable at any time :)

But I still hope that some people are going to install/test it and send feedback so that we can quickly finalize the 2.5 version of YAM and release a stable version.

cheers,
jens

What about viewing HTML emails? Can this be done via the SimpleHTML datatype at least?

Hans

Well, It should already be able to import mails from Simplemail. Just try it. Use the Import menu item and select the raw mail files SimpleMail stores in its folders. That way you should be able to switch from SimpleMail to YAM...

Question: will it include all the MUI custom classes it needs? Because that would be great to have as many mcc's installed as possible, so the user doesnt have to download them all when installing new MUI apps.. I wonder if Hyperion had to ask for permission to include them?

Yes, all of the required MCC's are on the CD as nearly the same MMC's were needed for the OS4 OEM version of Epistula which is also on the OS4 classic CD.

They're all open-source anyway I believe!

Ah, what a nice surprise - an OS4 OEM version of Epistula.

Let's see, we have IBrowse for surfing, YAM for e-mailing, and Epistula
for Instant Messaging and DVPlayer for movies, AmiPDF for PDFs. AmigaOS4.0
is looking really good :).

I've got an A1 but will support Hyperion with buying a copy anyway. Maybe there's
some of the software I can use on it.
